If I Stay, in theaters now

Mia Hall (Chloë Grace Moretz) thought the hardest decision she would ever face would be whether to pursue her musical dreams at Juilliard or follow a different path to be with the love of her life, Adam (Jamie Blackley). But what should have been a carefree family drive changes everything in an instant, and now her own life hangs in the balance. Caught between life and death for one revealing day, Mia has only one decision left, which will not only decide her future but her ultimate fate. “If I Stay” is based on the best-selling novel of the same name.

Staring Chloë Grace Moretz, Mireille Enos, Jamie Blackley, Joshua Leonard, Liana Liberato, Aisha Hinds and Stacy Keach. Directed by R.J. Cutler. Rated PG-13 for thematic elements and some sexual material. “If I Stay” is in theaters now!

You can watch the trailer here in my previous blog post.

I recently had a Five Dollar Shake team member attend an advanced screening of “If I Stay”, and she had the following to say about the movie.

“In a nutshell… It was very good – a tear jerker for sure but with light touches of humor throughout the movie – which in my opinion didn’t make it to dark or depressing throughout the whole movie…it made it “real”. I wouldn’t suggest it for those that have lost a Mom/Dad/Brother/Sister tragically-

It was a reality check for families to understand what is important in our lives…and that is – each other and not to take for granted that we all will “always” be there.

It brought me to question – even if I lost all my family around me tragically – could I live or would I want to live…? It shows that not only family can love and care … but in fact extended family and friends would be there – to help me through getting up, dusting off, pulling through and moving on in life..not to say it wouldn’t be the hardest path I would tread… ”

“Parents Just Don’t Understand” on The Hub Network #HubClub

PJDU2

“Parents Just Don’t Understand” is a new light-hearted and fun-loving unscripted series hosted by Joey Fatone (‘NSYNC, “Rewrapped”). Premiering Saturday, August 23 at 7 p.m. ET/4 p.m. PT. on The Hub Network, the series will give parents and kids a chance to walk a day in each other’s shoes and experience firsthand the demands that each struggles to balance.

pjdu_44857

Fatone also serves as an executive producer of the series, along with Christian Sarabia, Rabih Gholam, Bicha Gholam, Nicole M. Reed and Allegra Newman. Cindy Nemes and Michael Wilder serve as co-executive producers. The 22-episode series will be produced by Endemol’s 51 Minds Entertainment for the Hub Network, champions of family fun and the only network dedicated to providing kids and their families entertainment they can watch together.

I recently received a fun package from The Hub Network that included an advance screening of “Parent’s Just Don’t Understand” to view with my family.

In the premiere episode, “The Touchdown Maker and Cupcake Baker,” Fatone swaps the lives of a 13-year-old and his underappreciated mom of five children. While the son tackles taking care of his siblings and a demanding job at the railroad, his mom must power through chores and football practice. Continuing in the spirit of “Freaky Friday,” the series will also showcase other parent-child swaps including a teenage ballerina and her feisty single-mom, a roller derby devotee and her princess-loving mom, plus a single-dad who takes on his son’s rigorous athletic schedule.

We really enjoyed checking out this new series. It was interesting to watch with our teenage daughter, who feels that we never understand. Watching it together gave us a chance to laugh at the ones being swapped, but to also talk about our own day-to-day lives. What a great premiss for a series! Anything that is entertaining enough to get the whole family to watch, and is thought provoking enough to get us talking, has my vote. We’re looking forward to watching more ‘Parents Just Don’t Understand”.

First Look @ Paul Rudd as Marvel’s ANT-MAN #AntMan

Armed with the astonishing ability to shrink in scale but increase in strength, con-man Scott Lang (Paul Rudd) must embrace his inner-hero and help his mentor, Dr. Hank Pym (Michael Douglas), protect the secret behind his spectacular Ant-Man suit from a new generation of towering threats. Against seemingly insurmountable obstacles, Pym and Lang must plan and pull off a heist that will save the world.

ant man_firstlook

I love Paul Rudd, and pretty much all things Marvel, so I’m betting this will be a fun film. Can’t wait to see some footage.

ANT-MAN is directed by Peyton Reed (“Bring it On,” “The Break-Up”) and stars Paul Rudd (“I Love You Man,” “Role Models”) as Scott Lang aka Ant-Man, and Michael Douglas (“Behind The Candelabra,” “Wall Street”) as his mentor Dr. Hank Pym and Evangeline Lilly (“The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug,” “Lost”) as Hope Van Dyne, daughter of Hank Pym.

Marvel’s ANT-MAN will be in theatres next summer on July 17th, 2015!

Having overcome the demons of his past, Malcolm (Marlon Wayans) is ready to start over with his new girlfriend Megan (Jaime Pressly) and her two adorable kids, Wyatt (Steele Stebbins) and Becky (Ashley Rickards). When their house is plaguedby a rash of bizarre paranormal events, Malcolm turns for help to his buddy Miguel (Gabriel Iglesias) and exorcist Father Williams (Cedric the Entertainer) in an attempt to drive the evil spirits from his home. But it turns out it’s not just the house that’s haunted…

A-Haunted-House-2-778542014

Our thoughts:

I didn’t see the first A Haunted House, but knowing that we really enjoy a good horror movie, and we also really enjoy comedy, this movie synopsis sounds perfect for our house. Turns out it is a bit too crude and adult to watch with our teenage daughter. I expected some of this, but it was all a bit much. The jokes in this movie made all three of us uncomfortable to be watching together. Now, on our own, we laughed pretty hard at some of the scenes, but far from all of them. I’d give this movie a 4 out of 10 rating.

Worth mentioning – Gabriel Iglesias is one of our favorites, seeing him do stand-up or in a movie is never a disappointment.

A-Haunted-House-Chicken-Victory

A Haunted House 2 might be worth watching if you know what to expect, or if you enjoyed the first installment. Keep in-mind there is a lot of explicit sexual scenes and language, this movie is rated R for a reason.

A Haunted House 2 is available now to rent or purchase!
