Purina Beyond natural pet food Review & Coupon Giveaway

Beyond_Purina_2bags

Purina has launched its newest line of cat and dog food – Beyond. Available at Mejer.

Purina Beyond natural pet food

  • Beyond starts with natural ingredients. Real meat, poultry or fish is the #1 ingredient, but that’s only the beginning.
  • We’re selective about what goes into our food. But we also say no to corn, wheat and soy, added artificial colors, flavors and preservatives and poultry by-product meal.
  • We hold ourselves to high quality standards. Where ingredients come from and how they’re sourced is an important part of our process. When we start with quality ingredients, it impacts the outcome – a high-quality product for your pet.
  • We don’t take nutrition lightly. Any reference we make to nutrition is backed by our very own in-house pet nutritionists. They formulate every recipe to optimize the way our real ingredients and vitamins and minerals come together to support the long-term health of your pet.

I recently received a couple of bags of Purina Beyond natural pet food to review here on Five Dollar Shake. Our basset hound (Roxy), is pretty easy going and has never turned down kibble, but our two cats (Harley & Raphael) are extremely picky. When I first opened the bags of dry food the aroma was really strong, and not at all appealing to me. I’m guessing that is a major difference when buying pet food that is made of real meat, poultry or fish. Oh, the fish! Turns out what is smelly to me, is heaven to our pets, because they instantly came running and couldn’t wait to eat the new food. They enjoyed every bite. To keep our pets healthy, and happy, because our pets aren’t spoiled in the least – I’ve been buying nothing but Purina Beyond natural pet food ever since. You can see the quality in the food, and the bags never have crumbs at the bottom like other dry kibble. It’s also very reasonably priced at Meijer.

Is it time for a shake up in casino movies?

The forthcoming release of The Gambler, starring Jessica Lange and Mark Wahlberg, has got tongues wagging as to whether or not the remake will do the original justice this November.

Gambler movie 2014

Jim Bennett (Mark Wahlberg) is in a downward spiral until Amy (Brie Larson) offers hope in ‘The Gambler.’(Photo: Claire Folger, Paramount Pictures)

Directed by Karel Reisz in 1976, the original film starred James Caan as a literary professor who made one too many bad choices when it came to indulging his gambling vice. The film was a hit in the 70s – but will the remake show James Caan justice? More importantly however, is it time we stopped making movies based on outdated gambling methods and started moving forward into the 21st century?

When people think of casino movies, there’s one outstanding flick that pops into everybody’s mind: Casino. Released in 1995, the film glamorized the darker side of the gambling scene, from lies and deception to owning your own empire, and it also propelled Sharon Stone onto everybody’s radar.

Later, in 2009, four hapless buddies got together to satirize the ‘boys will be boys’ culture of Las Vegas in award-winning comedy The Hangover. Just like Casino, the film won a Golden Globe, but it had a completely different outlook on Vegas.

What the two films did have in common however was that they both dealt with the traditional elements of Vegas – card playing, table games and slot machines. The casino genre is definitely a popular one amongst Hollywood, so perhaps it’s time to ask: is it time for a shake up in casino movies?

As trends move forward, so too should the subject matter in today’s blockbusters. For example, today, more and more of us are turning to sites like online.bingo.com/en to play online rather than leaving the house to have a cheeky gamble. If we are all turning to the internet to indulge our gambling habits, should script writers not move in the same direction?

Indeed, the idea was dabbled with in the 2013 flick Runner Runner, which saw main protagonist Richie Furst (Justin Timberlake) winning an online poker game and consequently landing himself into a spot of bother with some very unwelcome enemies.

The film had a lukewarm reception, achieving just 5.6 on IMDB, which is all the more reason why Hollywood should play with this idea a little more. Films about the impact of the internet have been on the rise in recent years – The Social Network, for example, won three Academy Awards.

In an age where we’re struggling to think of something new, movies about online casinos could be the next big thing in film franchises. The possibilities for plot ideas are endless, whether it’s hacking into a multi-million dollar online casino corporation or a gangster battle between the online empire owners. If it worked so well for Scorsese in the 90s, it might be an idea for movie makers to try it again with a 21st century twist – take note, Hollywood.

Kia Knows Power, my 2015 Kia Sorento LX V6 review

I recently spent a week with this beauty! The 2015 Kia Sorento LX V6. If you follow me on social media, you already know I have mad crazy love for Kia, but this one, wow, she stands out! Not only is this SUV a beauty to look at, offers a ton of convenient options, and amazing comfort inside – but she has the goods under the hood!

Kia_sorento_2015_11

Of course the 2015 Kia Sorento offers all of the conveniences that Kia is known for; Power-Folding Outside Mirrors, Remote Keyless Entry, Push-Button Start with Smart Key and Immobilizer, FlexSteer™ Driver-Selectable Steering Assist, Dual-Zone Automatic Climate Control, Dual Front Cup Holders, 2nd-Row Center Armrest with Cup Holders, Rear Air Conditioning, Trip Computer, Integrated 2nd-Row Window Sunshades, just to name a few.

kia_2015sorento_4_block_photos

Whether your packing for a weekend or just returning home from the grocery store, the 2015 Kia Sorento offers a huge amount of hatch space. Huge! And if more space is needed, there is an Under-Rear-Cargo-Floor Storage Compartment! The review vehicle I drove also had Power Liftgate with Programmable Height Adjustment. Open and close the Power Liftgate with a press of a button on the key fob or the liftgate it’s self. For added convenience, you can also set the opening height! Kia has no idea just how much this five foot one (on a good hair day) mom appreciated that button!

kia_2015sorento_truck_2_photos

Let’s talk safety! It amazes me that Kia somehow keeps finding ways to improve. Of-course the biggest safety option while on the road is always an attentive driver, but knowing that Kia works hard to keep improving on their safety features sure gives me peace of mind while my family is on the road.

Some of my favorites are; Dual Front Advanced Airbags, Side Curtain Airbags on the 1st & 2nd Rows, 4-Wheel Disc Brakes with Antilock Braking System (ABS), Traction Control System (TCS), Rollover Sensor, and the Front Active Headrests design to reduce the likelihood of neck, head, and spinal injuries during an accent. I love knowing that Kia has earned top safety ratings from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and/or the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). Like a said, “peace of mind”.

Kia also sure knows how to bring the gadgets! Having modern options in a vehicle not only makes me happy, it makes me a better driver. In my opinion several of these options are as just as much a safety option as they are gadgets. Voice-Command Navigation with 8″ Display, UVO eServices & SiriusXM Traffic, Infinity® Surround Sound Audio System with Ten Speakers, External Amplifier & Subwoofer, HD Radio™, Bluetooth® Wireless Technology Hands-Free Connectivity, Rear-Camera Display, Trip Computer, EcoMinder® Fuel-Efficiency Indicator, 115-Volt Power Inverter and the all important for any road trip USB/Auxiliary Input Jack. I don’t know how we traveled anywhere with our teenager without it.

10624013_514044975408078_1313676797_n

The 2015 Kia Sorento sure is pretty look at, with her shiny, sparkly paint, and fancy grill and wheels, but don’t let her beauty fool you, she’s packed with power! We packed up and drove this SUV five hours through northern Michigan. It handled great on the freeway! Picked up speed in seconds. Not kidding, seconds! Drove up and down hill with ease. Not that I would ever drive over the speed limit, on an open and empty road, in the country, but if I did – I’d be able to tell you that this beauty flies smooth, and with impressive ease.

kia_2015sorento_9_block_photos

Also impressive is Kia’s fuel economy. 18/25/- City/Highway is not bad at all for full size SUV! In-fact the only issue I had during my entire week of driving the 2015 Kia Soento is, at my height I have to readjust the mirrors often, to avoid blind spots. Also, I don’t know what it is but I found the driver seat belt slightly uncomfortable. Again, this could be height related. Both are issues that I’m sure I’d be able to work out over time of driving the car. Definitely wouldn’t be a deal breaker. The 2015 Kia Sorento is an amazing vehicle. If in your budget, I highly recommend a test drive.

Disclosure: I was delivered a 2015 Kia Sorento LX V6 to drive for seven days. No monetary compensation has been exchanged. Photos used and the opinions express are honest and my own. I was not asked or influenced in any way to write a positive review by Kia . I am disclosing this information as part of the legal FTC blogger regulations.
