Between a full-time work schedule, family and pets life can get pretty busy these days. I recently decided that this is the year I make more time for myself, and make a big effort to slow down and live more present in the moment. The reality is that life moves fast, and you really do have to enjoy the little moments where you can find them. For me, they are often during my drive to and from the office. I drive about forty minutes each way, every weekday, that’s my “me” time.
Driving the 2017 Toyota Highlander XLE AWD for a week long review made my “me” time a lot more enjoyable. While most of my vehicle reviews have included a road trip or a family getaway, this one is all about me, and my quest to simplify and enjoy life. The first thing I did was to get up and take the Highlander for a nice morning drive.
I left the house at sunrise, and stopped for my favorite health drink and snack. I listened to music while I drove the scenic route for a while, and then headed to the mall. There I found the perfect red carpet dress, just in-time for the Disney/Pixar Coco Event in LA. It was a fabulous morning, some much needed alone time, it felt like freedom and I enjoyed every minute of it.
My quest to simplify
The Highlander explores every possibility in safety and comfort. Years of improvements that feature the best in tech that help keep the driver’s eyes on the road. This is a major plus for me. A few of my favorites are the Blind Spot Monitor and Rear Cross-Traffic Alert, Birds Eye View Camera, Driver Easy Speak, and Rear Parking Assist, because I stink at parking, like big time! The Driver Speak Easy is a great feature for families, it picks up the drivers voice and transmits it to the rear-seated passengers through the speakers. No more swinging your head over your shoulder. Oh, how I wish I had that feature back when our girls were young. Seriously takes yelling “don’t make me pull this car over” to a whole new level.
My quest to enjoy
The 2017 Toyota Highlander XLE AWD was extremely easy and comfortable for me to drive. I really felt spoiled by the luxurious interior, and it’s smooth ride. The Panoramic Moonroof is a nice feature. I love all of the nature light that it lets in. I also love the Smart Key and Push Button Start system. It makes life easier when you have things to carry. Plus, it just feels fun to use. I definitely felt pampered while driving this vehicle during my review. I have to admit, I put the JBL Auto System to a real test, because sometimes I am all about the sounds, and it did not disappoint. Amazing and clear even at a thumping-loud volume, loud enough to droned out my untalented voice while singing along, because that’s what ya do during “me” time on the road, right?
Featuring a 3.5 L V6 engine the Highlander has some impressive pick up. Even though my daily life does not require me to drive a vehicle of it’s size (seats up to 8 & a ton of cargo space), I really enjoyed driving the Highlander for review, and was sad to see it go back. The Highlander also features Rear-facing Entertainment via a built-in DVD player, another feature that I wish I had back when our girls were young. I should also note that I made it through my week on only one tank of gas – how cool is that!? If you are considering a vehicle this size, I highly recommend a test drive.
