Technology has evolved so much over the past years. We see and feel it in our everyday lives. With that evolution there have been many myths formed about technology and your internet. Here are 5 technology myths debunked.
Myth: If you find it on the internet it must be true
Reality: In all, there is a lot of fiction mixed in with the facts on the internet. Just because you saw it online – or on television – that doesn’t always make it true. Do your research and make sure to view trusted news sites before you believe every story.
Myth: Password Protected Networks are Safe from Hackers
Reality: Do you have a password set on your home modem? Many people use simple combinations that they will remember, thinking that it’s good enough and that it’ll keep an identity thief from stealing any information that they may have used online. You should always have your network protected with a combination of letters, numbers and symbols. The longer your password is, the better. Remember to not use common words, names, phone numbers that others may easily guess. Also, you should consider changing your network password every so often.
Myth: All Internet service providers are the same. There isn’t one better than another.
Reality: All internet service providers are NOT created equal. Just compare at the value/adds each one provides. Xfinity offers Xfinity xFi, 18 million outdoor hotspots across the nation, and a new kind of new kind of network that allows Xfinity Internet subscribers the ability to get up to 5 five lines on Xfinity Mobile included into their current plan and only have to pay for data. Myth: I have to sit and wait all day for my tech to come install my service.
Reality: Gone are the days of sitting home waiting and hoping your service tech guy shows to install your system. Xfinity offers a two-hour window. You can also track when the tech will be there and what he or she looks like through the My Account app (called ETA). Xfinity is committed to their customers.
Myth: Your Internet service provider is not Local
Reality: Did you know that Comcast is a national company with a local focus. They provide jobs and support the community with volunteerism, donations, scholarships and grants. Comcast was also rated one of the Best Places to Work in both Michigan and Indiana.
