We are a close family, our granddaughters spend a lot of time here with us, and often sleepover. So much so, our home probably feels like their second home. While every visit with our girls is special, every once in a while we go out of our way to make their night something extra fun. Like kicking off the holiday season. We’ve been doing this for a few years now. Below is our tips on creating a fun holiday sleepover, hopefully a night they will always remember.
1.Surprise them with new holiday pajamas. We have two daughters, and now two granddaughters, and new holiday pj’s has been always been a hit. Not in your budget? Wasn’t always in ours either. I used to buy them off the clearance rack the day after Christmas when my girls were young. Stores like Target and JC Penny, are great places to look for slashed prices. Just remember to buy a good size or two up so they fit the following year.
2.Order dinner in. We hardly order pizza these days, so when we do it’s a real treat. The girls loved sitting at the table talking about what they enjoy about Christmas over dinner. Ordering in gives us more time together, and less time stuck in the kitchen.
3.Board & card games. We played several rounds of Candyland and Go-fish. I can’t believe how much we laughed. Lulu is just learning her colors, so the game got a little silly at times. We also played a round of duck-duck goose. Oh my gosh, talk about silly.
4.Cookies. We baked and decorated a batch of sugar cookies. I think this was Lulu’s first time decorating cookies, but her big sister (Becca) is a pro and was a great helper. They may have used an entire bottle of sprinkles, but all the cookies turned out beautiful, and they were so proud. We also made a big gingerbread man. Our teenage daughter did the decorating, but we all enjoyed doing the eating.
5. Holiday movies. Nothing is better than snuggling under a blanket and watching the magic of holiday movies with these girls. We watched The Original Christmas Classics Bundle. It was their first time seeing some of the classics that my husband and I grew up with. That made the experience a little extra special for us. Can’t go wrong with a night filled with favorites, like Frosty, Rudolph and Santa.
The Original Christmas Classics Bundle include the following:
- Frosty the Snowman
- Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer
- Santa Claus is Comin’ to Town
- The Little Drummer Boy
- Cricket on the Hearth
- Mr. Magoo’s Christmas Carol
- Frosty Returns
Not sure which movie the girls liked the best. They seems to enjoy them all, and have asked to watch them again already. This is a bundle I see us watch and enjoy way past the holiday.
