Our most recent Restaurant.Com find took us to downtown Northville, Michigan. A very charming town filled with old-fashioned street lamps, out door benches, and a nice collection of restaurants, and small shops. Tucked inside a small historic building we paid “The Next Chapter Bookstore and Bistro” a visit for brunch.
From the outside this bookstore/bistro doesn’t really look like much. Once inside there is no denying it’s unique, and welcoming charm. The decor is warm, with a slight European feel. The creaky hardwood floors, the dark-wood tables, and the aroma of rich brewing coffee, blended teas, and delicious made to order crepes make for a nice, relaxing ambiance.
The Next Chapter Bookstore and Bistro is a great place to shop for gifts, and for those that enjoy reading. There is definitely a little something here for everyone. A visit would not be a waste of anyone’s time.
There are a couple of corners that offer a cozy space to sit back, and read while enjoying a beverage. I just love the windows, and warm natural lighting. I could easily see myself sitting in either location for hours, losing myself in a good book.
If you ask me, The Next Chapter Bookstore and Bistro is a true gem, hidden among a modern “chain-store” filled world. A real treasure if you will.
Talked about for their homemade crepes, The Next Chapter Bookstore and Bistro offers a generous size menu. Much larger than I expected for a bookstore. Of-course, with food being made to order, shoppers need to be prepared to wait, which we did for a pretty good amount of time. To be fair, we were there during a busy Saturday afternoon. The food was delicious and well worth the wait, and since we enjoyed being in the store so much, we honestly had no complicates. Those on a tighter schedule might feel differently.
We enjoyed Chicken Florentine (roasted chicken, red onion, spinach & Gruyere Swiss, Topped with olive oil & Italian Herbs) , and a C’est la Vie (Such is Life) Crêpe (filled with raspberry preserves and drizzled with house-made raspberry sauce) and Lemon Delight (Plain Crêpe served with lemon wedges.) for dessert. They were heavenly. Made to perfection while we waited. You can even watch through the glass as your crepe is being made, on a 200 degree french crepe wheel. It’s kind of fascinating.
We also couldn’t resist bringing home this beautiful carrot cupcake for my husband. It’s his favorite of cakes.
If you find yourself heading downtown Northville for any reason, I highly recommend a stop at The next Chapter Bookstore and Bistro. We are already looking forward to another visit soon.
