Did you know that nearly 1 in 5 people living in Michigan struggle with hunger? How is this possible?? If you haven’t heard of them – Gleaners Community Food Bank is working hard to make a difference. You should check them out!
Below is an opportunity to contribute, while enjoying some fun fall activities with your friends and family.
Gleaner Life Insurance Society is teaming up with The Henry Ford to sponsor a food drive to benefit the Gleaners Community Food Bank of Southeastern Michigan. Gleaner Day is Saturday, Oct. 5, 2013 and is focused on helping feed families in our community.
When you purchase an admission ticket to Greenfield Village on Oct. 5, you will receive a second admission ticket (of equal or lesser value) for free when you donate at least five nonperishable food items. Gleaners Community Food Bank operates a total of five distribution centers in Wayne, Oakland, Macomb, Livingston and Monroe counties, which provide food to 558 partner soup kitchens, food pantries, shelters and other agencies throughout southeastern Michigan. Overall, they distribute more than 46 million pounds of emergency food annually.
Not only will they be collecting food that day, but also celebrating the final Fall Flavor weekend of 2013. There will be cooking demonstrations throughout the historic homes and a nice farmers market, too.
Both Gleaners Community Food Bank and Gleaner Life Insurance will be on hand all day greeting guests and collecting food.
Visit their website for full details.
What a great way to spend the day, and for such a great cause!
