This summer hit the beach like it’s 1969!
Teen Beach Movie” follows teen surfing sweethearts Brady and McKenzie who together ride the last wave of summer, one that mysteriously takes them into a classic beach party movie, “Wet Side Story.” There, it’s surfers versus bikers for control of the beach hangout…and everyone spontaneously breaks into song and dance. Now, Brady and McKenzie must try to return to present day, but their lives may be changed forever when they inadvertently alter the movie’s romantic storyline when handsome surfer Tanner falls for McKenzie and biker girl Lela starts swooning for Brady.
I recently watched this movie with my teenage daughter. At first I was worried that she might be too old to really be entertained by a Disney musical. Thankfully, we both enjoyed the movie, and made a fun evening our of it. I found the storyline a lot of fun and pretty imaginative. Though, we both agreed it could have stood on it’s own without the subplot of mad scientists scheming to alter weather patterns and take over the local hangout — and then the world.
We also agreed that even though Garrett Clayton (local Detroit area boy) does a great job playing the main character of Tanner, it would have been nice to see someone else in the role. Maybe it’s just us, but we both found him a little too similar to a young Zac Efron. Would be nice to Disney change things up a bit.
With that said Disney’s Teen Beach Movie is a really fun family film. Plenty of laugh out loud moments, and of-course some really fun music. The song and dance scenes are great. The cast is very pretty, and the songs are very catchy. I can easily see this movie and the soundtrack becoming Disney’s next hit. Especially with tween-age girls.
