My grandma and me.
My grandma and me.

I spent a lot of time with my grandma when I was young. I was her baby’s baby, so we were very close, and kept a special relationship, through to my adulthood. She lived a simple, healthy lifestyle compared to today’s world. She walked everywhere, spent hours working in her yard, and cooked her meals from scratch. That I can remember she kept three staples in her house, food that I could count on and look forward to during each weekend visit. Fresh berries in her fridge, a pie on her table, and Cheerios™ in her pantry. We had some of the best times over breakfast. Oh the memories! One major bonus to being a young mom is that my daughter was able to enjoy the same close relationship with my grandma. After all, she was her baby’s baby’s baby. My grandma lived to see 100, a long meaningful life, but we miss her greatly. Though I haven’t picked up the skill of baking or growing berries in my yard, I have been able to pass on the tradition of Cheerios™ with my granddaughters. Just as my grandma did with my dad, myself, and with my daughter. Four generations of making the best memories over breakfast.

Baked Cheerios™ & Apple Cinnamon Cheerios™ morning snack mix!

cheerios_counter_1

You will need:
(3) cups of both Cheerios™ & Apple Cinnamon Cheerios™
(1) stick of butter
(2) cups of dried fruit (we like cherries)
(1 & 1/2) cups of semi-sweet chocolate chips
(1) cup of sweetened shredded coconut (optional).

  • Grease a full size cookie sheet with the butter. Just a thin coating will do.
  • Mix together and spread a single layer of cereal on the cookie sheet.
  • Bake for ten minutes at 350 degrees, or until about half of the cereal is golden brown.
  • Cool, and then dump into a large mixing bowl.
  • Mix in the remaining ingredients. Serve.

This morning snack taste like a lot of love, for very little effort. I enjoyed it as a kid, as did my girls, and now our granddaughters. It’s perfect for Saturday morning cartoons.

Wow, I’ve never heard of this Give a Box deal, what a neat idea!
I had a great aunt (as in, my dad’s aunt, but she was also pretty great) that made marshmallow treats for us all the time – like Rice Krispy treats but with pretty much every kind of cereal, with various kinds of candy added in. I’m pretty sure we had Cheerio treats with M&Ms at least once. Feeling nostalgic now 🙂

What an amazing experience to have four generations gathered together! I would love to share a box with my brother. He moved across the country several years ago, so I don’t have the chance to see him very often. I would love to surprise him with a box – it’s a great memory from our childhood! (client)

Same here. I grew up on Cheerios as did my mom before me. These days, my boys love them, too!

We love cheerios in our house. It’s a staple, and we make sure the kids get it a few mornings a week! They are great to snack on on the go too. This is great.

Cheerios are certainly a great tradition to pass down, while I have no kids myself I can see how this would be a fun tradition to carry on!

My husband’s favorite cereal is Cheerios. He’s been eating them since he was a little boy and after all these years, Cheerios are still his fave.

This post was beautifully written! I will have to try the recipe with the organic “Morning O’s” I buy instead of Cheerios.

Cheerios is one my most favorite cereals. It is not too sweet and it fills me up. I have to check this Apple Cinnamon. It looks good.
