Happy Holidays! My name is Toni from My Book Addiction and I am thrilled to be posting on Five Dollar Shake today. Thank you so much for the invitation, Jenn!

I’ve always wanted to take my family to Holiday Nights at Greenfield Village. Every year we hear the fireworks from our living room and have always wondered what it would be like to go. Well, this year was a dream come true. It was a magical experience that none of us will forget. I was a little nervous because I have never been much of a winter person. You’d think living in Michigan for so long I would be used to it by now, but I am not a fan of cold weather, and it was only twelve degrees the night we went. Let me tell you, though.. it was beyond worth it. There were houses and other buildings along the way with different types of entertainment and demonstrations, so it was perfect. Whenever I got cold I would just pop into one and enjoy the show, then pop back out and continue along on our adventure.

Holiday Nights has carolers on nearly every corner, horse-drawn sleigh rides with a guitar-playing entertainer on each one, an outdoor ice rink, fantastic food, delicious hot chocolate. It was like being in a Christmas movie. My favorite part, and I know it was the highlight of my little girls’ nights as well, was seeing Santa Claus on Maple Lane. Not only did we get to see the big man up on that shining balcony, surrounded by Christmas lights, but Santa also called out to each of the children. When he said, “Oh, look, there’s Libby and Gabby! Merry Christmas to you both!” the look on their faces was nothing I’ve ever seen before. Gabby had asked me as we were approaching if he was the real Santa, and I said, “I don’t know.. let me get closer and see.” After he called out to them she turned to me with wide eyes and said, “It is the real Santa! He knows our names!!” If it hadn’t been so cold outside a tear may have escaped my eye. I’m sad to report that I didn’t get a good picture of Santa because my camera was frozen by that point, but there’s no way any of us will ever forget the experience.

Holiday Nights at Greenfield Village is the most enchanting way to celebrate the holidays. We will definitely be going again next year. I’m going to be sure to ask Santa for thermal underwear for the whole family, too!

Holiday Nights in Greenfield Village, Dec. 6-8, 13-15, 20-22 and 26-28. Starting at 6:30 PM.

I have got to do some investigating and see if there is something like this to do in my area. I don’t think there is in town. Looks like a lot of fun! 🙂
