20 Years of Best Picture Winners

The 84th Annual Academy Awards will be handed out this Sunday February 26, 2012. I’ve been watching and enjoying this ceremony for as long as I can remember. There have been times I’ve gone as far as to host an Oscar pajama party. There is nothing like a group of girls placing bets with movie snacks on who we think should win, getting mad when we see who actually does win and chatting up about designer dresses to make for a good time! This year I’ll be taking place in more quite award watching and viewing the show alone from my couch. Even though there wont be any movie candy munching or betting going on, I’m sure there will be plenty of cheering for my favorite nominees to take home the statues, and even a little getting mad when they don’t.

One of my favorite categories is “Best Picture”. Below is a list of the last 20 Years of Best Picture Winners. Fun to look back and still count most of them as favorites.

2010 – “The King’s Speech”
2009 – “The Hurt Locker”
2008 – “Slumdog Millionaire”
2007 – “No Country for Old Men”
2006 – “The Departed”
2005 – “Crash”
2004 – “Million Dollar Baby”

Here are this years Best Picture Nominees:

The Artist, The Descendants, Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close, The Help, Hugo, Midnight in Paris, Moneyball, The Tree of Life, War Horse

If it were up to me, I’d like to see The Help added to that winner’s list! How about you? Which nominee would you like to see win for Best Picture ? I’d love to hear your choice in the comments below.

Comments

  1. Karla says:

I definitely think The Help should win!

  2. Sarah says:

I would love to see The Help added too, GREAT movie. Although, I just saw Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close for the first time a couple days ago….also a GREAT movie!

  3. Patricia says:

Great movies. I do love The Help.

  4. Sadly I haven’t seen anything, at least all the way through, except for The Help. I started Tree of Life but it’s slow and deep and a hard movie to watch at 3am. I’ve heard wonderful things about Hugo and War Horse a well.

I did really like The Help and definitely wouldn’t mind seeing it win tonight.
