Operation Smile is an international children’s charity whose primary goal is to provide care, support and safe surgical care to repair a cleft lip or cleft palette.
Did you know that every three minutes, a child is born with a cleft? One of ten of those children will not live to see their first birthday. Children who survive past their first year are often unable to speak, socialize or smile. i had no idea! Being parent, this totally breaks my heart.
Thanks goodness for “Operation Smile“, they are the largest volunteer based medical charity providing free cleft surgeries. Free! To families who would otherwise have to go without this surgery. They’ve been doing this since 1982 and have given over 200,000 free surgeries to children and young adults with facial deformities. They work in over 60 countries to heal smiles and save lives.
There are ways you and I can also help. “Operation Smile” would not be possible without donations, volunteers, and without medical volunteers providing safe and reliable care for these kids. Visit them online for more information on how you can become a medical volunteer.
Speaking of donations, if you or someone you know is in need of college textbooks, CampusBookRentals is an affordable program that makes a donation to “Operation Smile” for each book rented. CampusBookRentals.com also offers an exciting new program called RentBack. RentBack is new initiative that allows students to rent the textbooks they own – to other students… which is awesome because it makes them 2-4x more money compared to what they’d make through buyback options! (selling their books back at the end of the semester). I’ve never met a college student who couldn’t use a little extra money, how you?
CampusBookRentals, and RentBack are a great opportunity to save money on books, make money AND contribute to a great cause!
