Accidental discovery of a new, fast-paced dice game that you’re going to love!

While on a shopping trip to Hallmark for a Christmas ornament, I stumbled upon what turned out to be the perfect gift for my niece, a dice game called “Tenzi”. It stated on the package that it’s the world’s fastest game. Since I am always on the lookout for a different type of game, I thought that I’d give this one a chance. I wasn’t disappointed.

Last night, for New Year’s Eve, three of us thought that we’d give it a try. The game can be played with 2 to 4 players. The game consists of 4 sets of colored dice, ten to a color, each player receives one set of ten.

There are many variations to the game, but we started with the basic one, where you all start out by rolling all your dice at the same time, then attempt to get all your dice on the same number. This is the only time that everyone rolls the dice at the same time. To be honest, it didn’t seem to me that it was going to be either complicated nor that interesting, but my opinion of the game soon changed!

You find yourself in a frenzy trying to roll your dice faster and faster as you notice that your playing partners are getting closer to their goal of obtaining ten dice with the same number on them. That number is determined on your first roll, where you quickly surmise how many cubes contain the same number, at which time you set them aside. Then you continue to roll the remaining dice, picking out any matches. The first person that completes the task of matching ten, then yells out “Tenzi”, wins. In our experience, though, each of us would be too excited to remember the word Tenzi, and would blurt out anything to announce our win!

Although not a requirement, we kept track of each player’s wins. It was amazing how many games we flew through. We eventually changed up the game, playing variations that required us to have matches of five dice/five dice (an example being five dice with one on them, and five dice having six on them).

Another adaption is that we would announce that all players would have to accomplish the same feat, for instance, everyone had to work on accomplishing getting the same configuration of dice.

The game comes with other suggested versions, as well, but it was fun for us to arrive at our own variations. It was hard to believe, but we played over 100 games in a relatively short time! We all kept remarking how fun, yet exhausting the game is, because of its’ intensity.

If you’re looking for a fun, face-paced game, this is it! Learn more about Tenzi at their website, which contains much more information and where to purchase the game .

This game is a blast… actually last night my daughter and I started to play – we found ourselves making up variation of all kinds – Time goes by very quickly when playing … ..looking up at the clock and realizing my teenage daughter has school tomorrow ;)))) lol… – I find it to be addicting once you start.
Agreed – found instead of yelling Tenzi we make up our own word to yell at the end…lol..pretty funny what you seem to yell out when you get the called out sequence – Very Fun! –

I can’t wait to try it Suzanne. I’m betting our teenage daughter will enjoy it as well.

  2. I discovered this game last year and our family loves it! But since we have far more than four players with just our family alone, I actually decided to buy non-branded colored dice on Amazon in bulk. Turned out to be less expensive than purchasing the actual Tenzi game. Not to take anything away from the brand itself, but if you need a LOT of dice (like we do), that’s a good way to enjoy the game with many players.

  3. Very cool review. I really want to get this for my hubby. He loves games and I know that he doesn’t own this one. Thanks for the review.
