McFARLAND, USA blu-ray review #McFarlandUSA

Track coach Jim White (Kevin Costner) is a newcomer to a predominantly Latino high-school in California’s Central Valley. Coach White and his new students find that they have much to learn about one another, but things begin to change when White realizes the boys’ exceptional running ability. More than just physical prowess drives the teens to succeed; their strong family ties, incredible work ethic and commitment to their team all play a factor in forging these novice runners into champions.

CAST: Kevin Costner (“Dances with Wolves,” “The Untouchables”), Maria Bello (“A History of Violence,” “Prisoners”), Carlos Pratts (“Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones,” “Out of the Fire”), Morgan Saylor (TV’s “Homeland,” “Cirque du Freak: The Vampire’s Assistant”).

At first glance this McFARLAND, USA may look like just another underdog, feel-good sports film, but honestly, it’s so much more than that. It’s a story of how people can really change and how dedication and perseverance can pay off. While this may all sound too familiar, this film manages to break new ground and staying entertaining. A very well made movie. Not a bad performance in the cast.

Being a fan of Kevin Costner, and a good sports movie, I was disappointed to have missed McFARLAND, USA while it was on the big screen, but enjoyed every minute of it with my family on blu-ray. It was the perfect movie for our most recent family movie night. Big thumbs up all around. Even our teenage daughter enjoyed the movie.

McFARLAND, USA is NOW available on Blu-ray, DVD and Digital where family films are sold!
