As the evening unfolds, a series of unexpected visitors and unlikely events turn the night upside down, leading them all toward a surprising rediscovery of family bonds and the spirit of the holiday.

I have a real soft spot for holiday themed movies. Especially movies that are centered around functional, and even better, dysfunctional families. They suck me right in. I just love them! New this holiday season, Love the Coopers just so happens to be one of those movies. I recently attended an advanced screening of Love the Coopers, and am looking forward to sharing my review soon.

Check out the trailer for Love the Coopers staring Alan Arkin, John Goodman, Ed Helms, Diane Keaton, Jake Lacy, Anthony Mackie, Amanda Seyfried, June Squibb, Marisa Tomei, Olivia Wilde below.

Every time I see the above trailer it makes me think back to hosting our first Christmas in our first house. Our dinning room chairs were not delivered on-time, so we ate on folding chairs and lawn chairs. That was a sight! As was my first holiday meal for ten plus guests. I think I served two kinds of dishes, raw in the middle or burnt. I even found the dinner rolls sitting in the oven the next morning. Never baked, and never served. Even though I felt the stress of not much going right on that day, I still think back to it as one of my favorites. Though we made for a crazy bunch, we were together as a family. That’s all that mattered.

It is not possible to host the perfect holiday, unless you believe that the perfect holiday is enjoying quality time with friends and family. So, when things don’t go as planned, you just have to roll with it and move on. How do I know this? Our most imperfect Thanksgiving was the best! It day started out with getting all the food prepared and the bird cooking. Well, things went way off schedule, thanks to a power failure…and a half-cooked bird in an electric oven. This resulted in everyone actually talking to each other, instead of watching the football game or their mobile devices as the power drained on their device. Since that day, I thought about faking a power failure …

  9. Sarah Hall says:

I have tried hosting the perfect holiday and it did not come together. I don’t think it is possible as something always seems to go wrong.

  11. I’ve never tried hosting the perfect holiday and it sounds near impossible. In my opinion if everyone has a good time then things don’t have to be perfect!
