Raita Yogurt Savory Dips, Review & Giveaway

I have never been one to be very adventurous when it comes to trying new food. I have my general favorites in Chinese, Polish, Italian and American dishes. I’ve traveled to many European cities and to Jamaica and have sampled the cuisine there and enjoyed much of it, although not all.

But to say that I don’t care for Indian fare is an understatement. There was many a celebration at work where a wonderful spread of food was presented where a good amount was Indian food. I would make a great attempt at trying the dishes but never really got passed the foreign flavors presented in them.

So, it was with great trepidation that I found out that the yogurt dips that I was asked to sample were Indian-style, made with cumin, coriander and cilantro, none of which are any of my favorites.

I decided then to organize an impromptu game night where, along with the three flavored yogurt dips, Raita’s “Tasty Tomato with Cumin and Coriander, “Zesty Cucumber with Cilantro and Mint” and “Spicy Carrot with Cumin and Coriander”, I provided sliced cucumbers, carrots, pita bread triangles and round tortilla chips. I didn’t sample any of the dips beforehand, I waited till some of the attendees started to sample them first.

I was pleasantly surprised to see that once everyone started trying the dips, be it with the bread, chips or vegetables, that they all immediately liked them! And, it wasn’t like they could nail down a favorite, each had their own appeal. Some initially thought that you had to sample the cucumber dip only with cucumbers and the same for the carrots with the spicy carrot dip, but that quickly went by the wayside as everyone started mixing it up with glowing reviews!

Well, it was at this point that I got brave and decided that all these people could not be wrong. So, I timidly took a chip, sampled one after another of the dips and decided right there and then that these Raita Savory Yogurts were absolutely scrumptious! I then went on to trying each with the vegetables, then spread them on the pita—just outstanding! One fellow in the group told me to make sure that I mentioned that he tried one of the dips on his baked pork chops and that it was great! So, they are versatile as well as tasty.

I am so glad that I took the approach to invite others to taste-test the Raita Yogurt dips. While I was initially apprehensive to trying the Indian fare, I was also drawn to the products because they are made in Michigan in the small town of Hart. By doing so, I allowed myself to put down some barriers and really be able to enjoy a quality product.

What I also like about “South Asian Flavors”, the company that produces these savory Raita dips, is that they have made the commitment to donating 1 percent of their profits towards a charity that works to alleviate hunger. I love that they are giving back in this big way. That, and the fact that they are all natural, high in protein and contain probiotics make me want to use them again in the near future.

Local shoppers can find Raita Savory Yogurt in Ann Arbor, Royal Oak and other metro Detroit stores.
