I was recently invited to an overnight stay at Castaway Bay for review. If you follow me on Twitter or Instagram – you’ve probably heard and seen a lot about it. With my husband not able to attend, I took the opportunity to create a fun “girls” weekend with our teenage daughter, our granddaughter and her BFF. Our trip could not have come at a better time, as it was a cold, and snowy weekend here in Michigan. The snow was really coming down while we drove to Ohio. The girls were super excited at the thought of being in Cataway Bay’s 82 degrees weather inside the hotel.

We really enjoyed the colorful, tropical theme throughout the hotel, and our room was perfect for the four of us. It was very clean, included a fridge, microwave, a nice size flat screen tv, and a small balcony overlooking the lake. Most importantly, two queen size, soft beds, filled with fluffy pillows because we had so much fun that my girls wore me out!

The waterpark is fun for all-ages, even parents. A nice soak in the huge indoor/outdoor Jacuzzi with a relaxing waterfall was amazing after our long drive. The girls (8,9,17) had a blast at the waterpark. The slides being at the top of their list, and of-course the giant spilling bucket is always a favorite. I can remember our first trip to Castaway Bay, our granddaughter, now nine, was so little we spent most of our time in the toddler area (which she loved), and this trip she totally dominated the Tropical Tube Slide. I love that weekends at Castaway Bay are becoming more of a tradition. It’s a great place to make fun family memories.

There is a lot to do at Castaway Bay besides the waterpark. For the families with younger kids there is a nightly movie with Snoopy. There is also a fun arcade that is open an hour longer than the pool. There are arts & crafts for everyone, some crafts starting at only $5!

Our girls had fun coloring t-shirts that they were able to bring home. It’s always fun to bring home souvenirs from each trip, even more fun when you get to make them yourself.

Let’s talk food – because when I travel, I am all about the food. To be honest, I’m all about the food even when I don’t travel. The food options at castaway Bay on a scale from one to ten, rate about a seven in my opinion. The pizza is fabulous. I actually love their pizza, but if you buy it anywhere other then by the pool it is a but pricey. I also really like that they have a variety of food, and snacks like fruit, humus, and sweet treats available until 11:00 pm at EBB & Eddies’ Deli. There is also Quaker Steak & Lube, a restaurant attached to the resort, where the four of us ate lunch for $30.00 before heading home. The food was pretty good too.

I pride myself on honest reviews here on Five Dollar Shake. I wont sugar coat a blog post because I was hosted for an event or gifted for a review. My family really does enjoy visiting Cedar Point and Castaway Bay, and has been doing so for as long as I can remember. BUT, I do have an a couple of issues I wish they would address. First being waste. I hate to see a cinnamon roll being served in a plastic container, when it is being eaten only a foot away from the counter. Honestly, why the plastic at all? There are so many other Eco-friendly options. We witnessed a ton of plastic being thrown away through the resort, a ton. This weighs on my conscious. My family works hard to do our part in the fight against waste, and we like to support the businesses that do the same. Also, the lack of vegan options within the resort was disappointing. I feel the resort would greatly benefit from widening their food menu options. I would love to see Cedar Fair Entertainment Company improve on both of these.

  7. Waterparks always provide awesome fun for kids and adults alike. I would love to go to Cedar Point’s Castaway Bay, but unfortunately, I live so far from the place. Someday though, if I get to be in the area, I’d make sure to drop by and have a great time. Your kids looked like they did have a good time. I hope that the issue you wished the company would address would be resolved soon.
