Raita Yogurt Savory Dips, Review & Giveaway

I have never been one to be very adventurous when it comes to trying new food. I have my general favorites in Chinese, Polish, Italian and American dishes. I’ve traveled to many European cities and to Jamaica and have sampled the cuisine there and enjoyed much of it, although not all. But to say that I don’t care for Indian fare is an understatement. There was many a celebration at work where a … [Read more...]

A diamond in the rough, my latest resale find

I had been toying around with the idea of buying a game table for my family room. For our occasional family game night, and pinochle night with the girls, it has always been a pain to have to lug out the needed card table and folding chairs from the basement, which was never an easy task. Although a hassle to store, a card table and chairs can be readily setup and moved. At the time that I was … [Read more...]

Practice makes perfect, gaining momentum playing Mah Jongg

You’ll recall if you read my last blog My Mah Jongg experience continues that I’ve taken an interest in Mah Jongg and am in pursuit of getting better at playing it. I’ve put in many hours of practice on my own and I finally see it paying off. I have been playing with several ladies at our local senior center. When only one lady showed up last week, I decided to try another local center. … [Read more...]

Just what in the world is Aioli? #EasyAioli #RedGoldRecipes

Isn’t it funny when you have never heard of something that all of a sudden it starts popping up everytime you turn around? That recently happened to me after having received the kit below from Red Gold. It contained sumptuous sounding varieties of their petite diced tomatoes, garlic & olive oil, zesty lime juice & cilantro, hot green chilies and just plain tomato, along with a tomato spreader, … [Read more...]

My Mah Jongg experience continues

If you read my last blog “Now onto figuring out this game!” you know that I am pretty serious about learning how to play the American version of Mah Jongg. I alluded to referencing “A Beginner’s Guide to American Mah Jongg How to Play the Game & Win” by Elaine Sandberg. That book, by far, helped me gain a better understanding of the game, particularly the chapter, “Cracking the Code”. In that … [Read more...]

The Secret Life of Walter Mitty, entertaining movie for an adult birthday sleepover!

I was recently asked to view and review the new Ben Stiller movie, “The Secret Life of Walter Mitty”. Although I am retired, I find that I have more than enough to occupy my time and, frankly, watching movies doesn’t consume much of it. I have never been much of a movie watcher and rarely even go to the show. I have plenty of other things to keep me busy, including numerous hobbies, pinochle … [Read more...]

Now onto figuring out this game

Since receiving a gift of an antique Maj Jongg game from a friend (See prior blog post "A Most Unexpected Gem" ) I’ve decided that it might be a good idea to actually learn how to play Maj Jongg. The only version that I’ve ever played is the one online where you are timed to uncover matching tiles. I would soon learn that this is nothing like any real Mah Jongg game. I decided to go to our … [Read more...]

Childhood memories rekindled with the discovery of a card game new to me! #Giveaway

When I was a kid, my girlfriends and I would spend hours playing the card game “Mille Bornes” (meaning a thousand miles in French) I don’t remember how my friend discovered this game, which was created in 1954 in France. It was different from any other card game that we’d ever played. All I recall is that we thoroughly enjoyed playing it. So, when I knew that I was going to try out a … [Read more...]

A Most unexpected Gem!

I received a call from a dear friend a couple of weeks ago asking me if she could come over, that she had something that she wanted to give to me. She explained that it was something that she had been looking for for a long time. She had put the item away in her mobile home in a very secure place, a place so secure she couldn't recall where she had hidden it until recently! I told her to come … [Read more...]

Greatest Salvation Army find yet!

So excited to tell you about my latest discovery at my local Salvation Army store. As you probably have gathered by now if you’ve read any of my previous blogs, I love to browse through the local thrift stores in my area. Although I enjoy the local stores, I will venture out to outlying areas in search of my next great find. While I was not in the market for a coat, something coaxed me into the … [Read more...]

Salvation Army find turns into a great addition to family game night!

Found this little gem at my local Salvation Army store. I couldn’t pass it by, the blue tag was marked $4.99, lucky for me, it was half off blue tag day! Even though I had no clue what it was, I knew that I couldn’t go wrong paying $2.50 for it. It was a well-constructed felt-lined box with the numbers 1-9 that could be flipped forward and back. It included two dice and instructions for the … [Read more...]

TENZI & the companion game “77 Ways to play TENZI” Review & Giveaway – 3 Winners!

A couple weeks ago I shared my experience with a new game, TENZI. With a suggested retail price of under $15.00, TENZI makes a great gift. The best way to buy it is to find it in your local store so that you’re able to pick out the dice in the color combination that appeals to you. I actually bought mine at my local Hallmark store. Now, along comes a companion game for TENZI, called 77 Ways to … [Read more...]

Accidental discovery of a new, fast-paced dice game that you’re going to love!

While on a shopping trip to Hallmark for a Christmas ornament, I stumbled upon what turned out to be the perfect gift for my niece, a dice game called “Tenzi”. It stated on the package that it’s the world’s fastest game. Since I am always on the lookout for a different type of game, I thought that I’d give this one a chance. I wasn’t disappointed. Last night, for New Year’s Eve, three of us … [Read more...]
