Give Back with Bob Evans’ Hunger Free Communities

Bob Evans Restaurant is giving back this holiday season!

In America, an estimated three million households are food insecure – that amounts to one in six people who lack the nutritious food needed to live a healthy life. Bob Evans Farms is pledging to continue the fight to end hunger through its Hunger Free Communities campaign.

Farmhouse Feast® Donation Program
Starting as a grassroots effort in 2010 by restaurant employees, Bob Evans is once again offering the Farmhouse Feast donation program. Thanks to generous donations from guests, more than 5,300 Farmhouse Feasts were purchased and delivered by our employees to local charities last year. Now through Dec. 25, guests are invited to join Bob Evans in helping to make the holidays brighter for area families by making $1, $5 or $10 donations in restaurant or online. The Bob Evans Farmhouse Feast meal is available in two sizes to satisfy families large and small, serving up to eight or four, and comes with a choice of a slow-roasted whole boneless turkey breast or sliced boneless ham, bread and celery dressing, mashed potatoes with gravy, buttered sweet corn, green beans with ham, cranberry relish, rolls, and a pumpkin pie with whipped topping, providing a complete holiday meal for families in need. You can order one online now for your family to enjoy at When ordering, be sure to make a donation to help put a meal on tables of hungry families around your community this season.

Fresh Produce Initiative
Another way Bob Evans gave back this year was at the grand opening of their new corporate campus in New Albany, Ohio on Oct. 26. They made a $50,000 contribution to support Mid-Ohio Foodbank’s fresh food initiative. An estimated three to six billion pounds of fresh produce grown each year in America does not make it to market. At the request of Feeding America, Mid-Ohio Foodbank launched a national initiative to get more of that produce from farmers’ fields to the tables of America’s hungry families. Bob Evans Food Products also donated sausage that equated to 18,000 meals to the Foodbank, which serves 20 counties in central and eastern Ohio.

I’ve been a fan of Bob Evans for a long time. Affordable, delicious, and convenient, what is there not to love?

It’s not easy to juggle my family’s busy schedule and also fit in meal time together. Especially around the holidays! Having dinner at Bob Evans, gives us the time to slow down, and enjoy the quality family-time we need. Now, it also makes it easy for us to give back – that’s a win, win for this busy mom!

Experience Thor:Treasures of Asgard Exhibit @ Disneyland #ThorDarkWorldEvent

Your Nine Realms experience doesn’t have to end with “Thor: The Dark World” – Marvel fans can now visit Thor: Treasures of Asgard at Disneyland! I, along with my #ThorDarkWorldEvent group of bloggers were the first to experience this new exhibit.

The exhibit includes a collection of treasures brought to Earth from planet Asgard.

After viewing these amazing Asgardian treasures, fans are invited to enter a chamber where the Bifrost will transport you straight to Asgard, and to a visit with Thor himself!

The exhibit is stunning. There is so much to look at and read. Trust me, you’ll want to see it for yourself, as my photos do not do it justice. Being placed right next to the Iron Man exhibit, Marvel fans are in for a truly out of this world experience. Disneyland has once again out-done themselves.

Not a Marvel fan? I can’t imagine. But let me remind you of how awesome Disneyland does the holidays. This year is no exception!

The Disneyland Resort just got merrier (as of 11/12), with all of their traditional Holiday favorites plus these new additions:

  • “World of Color – Winter Dreams” premieres Nov. 15. This is an all-new, holidays version of the very popular “World of Color” nighttime, water spectacular at Disney California Adventure Park.
  • “Disney ¡Viva Navidad!” – This new celebration, inspired by Latino culture and celebrations, features music, food, dancing and an exciting Street Party multiple times a day. It begins Nov. 15 at Disney California Adventure. This precedes our Jan. 3-6 Dia De Los Reyes celebration for Three Kings Day.
  • “Jingle Cruise” – The Jungle Cruise skippers decorate for the Holidays and add some fun new jokes to their riverboat tour, at Disneyland Park.

There’s no place like the Disneyland Resort during the Holidays!

Three of the top blackjack scenes in movies

Although blackjack is certainly a popular casino game, it could be argued that this fact has not really filtered through to Hollywood movie producers. After all, casino scenes in movies are not exactly uncommon, but more often than not, the games that are being played in these scenes are poker, roulette and even baccarat – but very rarely blackjack. If you’re a fan of any of these games, come and play them at online casino Canada, it’s very easy to access not just from computer but from your phones or tablets.
Nonetheless, despite this oversight, there have been a handful of great blackjack scenes in movies over the years – such as these three.

Licence to Kill
The Bond movies embody the complaint in the opening paragraph, as virtually every one of them has a casino gambling scene, but Bond plays poker (in the recent ones), roulette and baccarat (in the older ones), but on only one occasion does he play blackjack. That happens in the unjustly neglected second Timothy Dalton movie Licence to Kill, where he visits the casino owned and controlled by drug tsar Franz Sanchez, and takes £250,000 of the latter’s money at the blackjack tables.

Rain Man
This is unquestionably the single most famous blackjack casino scene in the movies, largely due to the memorable performance of Dustin Hoffman as the autistic Raymond. Here Charlie (Tom Cruise) takes his older brother Raymond to play blackjack at Vegas casino, so that he can exploit the talent for maths that comes with the latter’s autism, by having him count the cards. Revealing the exploitative selfishness of Charlie, as well as the savant skills of Raymond, this scene has achieved legendary status.

Ocean’s Eleven
Given that the whole premise of this star-studded remake of the old Rat Pack vehicle is about stealing from Vegas casinos, there aren’t that many memorable gambling scenes in it. Indeed the best part of the bit with Bernie Mac’s blackjack dealer doesn’t take place at the tables, but in a room behind the scenes at the casino. After having his past criminal history revealed by Matt Damon, the angry Mac accuses the former of racism, and utters one of the best lines in the film: “S-, you might as well call it ‘whitejack’”.

Actor Josh Henderson (“DALLAS”) Charity Campaign

Actor Josh Henderson (“DALLAS”) is trying to raise $5,000.00 by Saturday August 17th, for The Somaly Mam Foundation. He’s bringing some bravery to the campaign, and facing his fear of heights, by jumping from a plane to help raise awareness and influence others to donate.

Josh Henderson (“DALLAS”)902

The Somaly Mam Foundation is a 501c (3) organization dedicated to the eradication of slavery worldwide, with a special focus on Southeast Asia where the trafficking of woman and girls is widespread. SMF supports survivor rescue, shelter and restoration programs (including medical and psychological treatment), as well as empowerment programs that train survivors of slavery to be a force of change in their community. SMF’s awareness and advocacy campaigns shed light on the crime of human trafficking and involve governments and individuals in the fight against modern day slavery.

Please take the time to watch the educational and moving video below.

Last I checked, Josh was only 70% to his goal, and you can help him reach the full $5,000.00! Remember, every donation at any size matters and are tax deductible.

He is even adding some fun to the campaign – for those of you who donate $30.00 or more Josh will send a personal tweet to you! Donate $50.00 and he’ll send a personal video on tweetvid! Hello social media geeks!

So, what are you waiting for? Visit Josh Henderson’s Fundraising Page to donate now.
