Surly (Arnett) is a mischievous squirrel with a mission: to find the tastiest nuts for winter. When he discovers a whole store filled with his favorite food, he plans a heist of nutrageous proportions. But the place turns out to be owned by ruthless bank robbers so it’s up to Surly and his furry friends to stop the nearby bank heist and save the town.

Showcasing an all-star cast including Brendan Fraser (The Mummy, Whole Lotta Love), Liam Neeson (Non-Stop, The Grey), Katherine Heigl (Knocked Up, The Ugly Truth), Maya Rudolph (Bridesmaids, Turbo), Jeff Dunham (Arguing With Myself, Spark of Insanity) and Gabriel Iglesias (Magic Mike, Hot & Fluffy), The Nut Job will prove “Enormously Entertaining” for the whole family (Avi Offer, NYC Movie Guru)!

I recently received a copy of The Job to review. It was delivered just in-time for these cuties to enjoy during a fun sleepover.

So I asked…

Did you like The Nut Job?
Libby: Yeah, I did, I really did!
Gabby: Yes.
Becca: I liked it too.

Which was your favorite character, and why?
Libby: Andie! Because I like her.
Gabby: Surly is my favorite. He’s funny.
Becca: All of them. They are so cute. The Dog.

Would you like to watch The Nut Job again?
Libby: Okay. I would like to watch it again.
Gabby: Yes. I would like to watch it again sometime.
Becca: Yes. We get to keep it, right?

My thoughts:
Though I didn’t see that much of the movie, what I did see was beautifully animated. The characters are super cute. The girls sat through the entire movie, and seemed to really enjoy it. Since my granddaughter (Becca) was the one to ask if we “get to keep it” I’m sure we’ll be watching it together on her next visit.

The Secret Life of Walter Mitty Blu-ray/DVD/Digital HD Combo Pack Giveaway

In The Secret Life of Walter Mitty a timid magazine photo manager (Ben Stiller), who lives life vicariously through daydreams, must embark on an incredible real-life adventure when a priceless negative goes missing. One of the places that this adventure takes Mitty is the beautiful Nordic country of Iceland. In honor of the film’s Blu-ray and DVD release on April 15th, we’re bringing you nine facts about the country that you may have never heard.

1. Icelandic language has been relatively unchanged for the last 1000 years.
Modern inhabitants of Iceland speak a language almost identical to that spoken by the country’s original Viking settlers in the 9th and 10th centuries.

2. There are 130 volcanic mountains in the roughly 40,000 square miles that make up Iceland.
18 of them have erupted in the last 1000 years, and the largest one covers nearly 8% of the country’s surface.

3. Reykjavik is the world’s northernmost capital city.
Iceland is so far north of the equator that the country experiences nearly continuous daylight during the summer months of June and July.

4. Surveys have shown that nearly 80% of Icelanders believe in the existence of elves.
The elves are thought to have magical powers, and special “elf negotiators” are sometimes brought in when construction is to take place in an area believed to be inhabited by the creatures.

5. Icelanders love movies.
They watch more films, per capita, than the people of any other country in the world.

6. Iceland is one of the most energy-efficient countries in the world.
70% of the energy used by Icelanders is produced by the country’s natural geothermal and hydroelectric resources.

7. Iceland’s main industry is fishing.
In fact, the usually peaceful nation entered into a series of confrontations with the United Kingdom in the 1950’s and 1970’s when the British refused to acknowledge an “exclusive fishery zone” that Iceland had instituted in the waters off its coast.

8. Iceland is the most sparsely populated country in Europe.
Roughly 322,000 people call the island nation home.

9. One of Iceland’s traditional foods is called hakarl.
It’s a dish of rotting and fermented shark meat.

Out Of The Furnace, Blu-Ray Review

From Scott Cooper, the critically acclaimed writer and director of Crazy Heart, comes a gripping and powerful drama about family, fate, circumstance and justice. Russell Baze (Oscar® Winner Christian Bale*) leads a dead-end life – he works a meaningless steel mill job all day, and cares for his terminally ill father at night. When Russell’s brother Rodney (Casey Affleck) returns home from Iraq, and lured into one of the Northeast’s most ruthless crime rings and mysteriously disappears. When the police fail to solve the case, Russell puts his life at risk in order to seek justice for his brother. This gripping film features a knockout cast that includes Woody Harrelson, Forest Whitaker, Willem Dafoe, Zoe Saldana and Sam Shepard.

I didn’t see Out Of The Furnace when it was in the theaters. Not because I wasn’t interested, but it seemed to open, and then quickly disappear from our area. So, I was really excited to receive this Blu-ray for review.

I have always enjoyed a well made story telling film. And this one, did not disappoint. Out Of The Furnace is a well crafted film, that tells the dark, violent story of a good man, trying to deal with a series of very bad circumstances. The film features a very talented cast, and stunning cinematography.

There are a few major plot turns I didn’t think would happen, and a few I really hoped wouldn’t happen. I love that Scott Cooper laid the story out, without worry of glossing it over, or fitting in a “happy ending”. Unlike a lot of big budget movies today. I know that some movie goers complained of the movie being too slow. I disagree, I could have watched more. The ending left me wondering, thinking and wanting the story to continue. Which to me, is a sign of a very good movie.

Dark, yes, violent, yes, sad, yes, but a beautiful display of talent. That is how I feel about Out Of The Furnace. Easily makes my list of this year’s favorite films.

I also really enjoyed the Blu-ray bonus features.

* Inspiration – The cast gives insight on their process and inspirations.

* Scott Cooper – A look at the career of Director Scott Cooper.

* Crafting the Fight Scenes

* The Music of Out of the Furnace

* Original Theatrical Trailer

Out Of The Furnace is available NOW for purchase on Blu-ray, DVD and Digital Download.
