Our #FreeBirdsPizzaParty & Blu-ray Review @FHEInsiders #FreeBirdsDVD

Last weekend I hosted a Free Birds Pizza Party with my granddaughter and nieces. Unlike our other movie viewing parties, this one was shared live on Twitter along with the other Fox Home Entertainment Insiders. It was so much fun sharing photos, and laughs as a group while we all enjoyed Pizza Hut Pizza, and watched Free Birds with our kids.

The girls loved their Free Birds themed gift bags, courtesy of Fox Home Entertainment. We set-up our table early, and enjoyed Free Birds activity sheets and other arts & crafts before watching the movie. We even baked cupcakes, and decorated them with sprinkles to match the movie box. Yum!

Our pizza was sponsored by Pizza Hut, and was delicious! Pizza Hut’s Dinner Box was a big hit with the girls, and the teenagers in the house (our daughter & nephew). Complete with their own pizza, bread-sticks and cinnamon-sticks. Can’t beat that for $10! While we enjoyed a new hand tossed pizza and wings. Which were amazing! This was a great reminder of just how tasty Pizza Hut pizza is, as it’s been a longtime since we’ve ordered their pizza.

Movie time! It was fun chatting with @FHEInsides on Twitter as we each started the movie at the same time!

Our thoughts:

The animation in this movie is outstanding and full of eye catching color. Yet, it’s the personalities that really draw you in. Each are written very well. The girls were happy to stay put for the entire movie. Which says a lot on it’s own. Reggie is hilarious, he gives the movie plenty of laugh out-loud moments, along with a few quotable lines. Jenny is my favorite character. I love a girl with brains, and found her storyline really fun. This movie is a riot! Fun for the whole family, even the teenagers enjoyed it. Free Birds is one we’re happy to have in our home library as I see it fast becoming a favorite and watched several times. Let’s not forget the bonus features – Shake a Tail Feather is a must to watch after the movie.

Free Birds is available now on Blu-ray DVD , DigitalHD and On Demand. Rent it on Amazon
for only $3.99!

Don’t forget to check out my previous Free Birds blog posts, that include a movie giveaway, and free activity sheets to do with your little ones!

Discover Farm-Fresh Goodness To Go, with Bob Evans Carry-out

If you are like me, and feeling a little burnt out from holiday cooking, yet worry about serving your family unhealthy fast food or pizza delivery, you should really take a look at Bob Evans Carry- Out. My family was recently treated to a holiday feast from Bob Evans. I knew Bob Evans served a delicious breakfast and in-restaurant sandwiches and desserts, but this – I had no idea!

The box I picked up was a complete meal for up to eight people, and required heating in our oven. Each dish was prepared in an oven ready container. No fuss, no mess on my part. I like that! In the box was a large seasoned turkey breast, stuffing, green beans with bacon, real mashed potatoes, gravy, corn, a dozen rolls, cranberry melody, a full size pumpkin pie, real whip topping and a loaf of pumpkin bread. From oven to table, the food was so impressive that our very picky teenage daughter not only cleaned her plate, but also asked if we can just order it again next year instead of cooking a holiday meal our self. My husband referred to the turkey as some of the best he has ever had – it is that good!

Seriously, this is not your typical carry-out! In-fact, since it was prepared from scratch, came straight from Bob Evans’ kitchen to our oven, I’d have to argue with anyone that didn’t call it homemade.

If budget is a concern, I’m about to surprise you again – this meal for eight cost less than $100.00. That’s about fifty dollars less than I spent shopping for our holiday meal this year.

Easy on our budget, delicious homemade taste and quality, and a lot less time spent in the kitchen. I think our teenage daughter is onto something. This wont be our last Bob Evans Carry-out meal.

Give Back with Bob Evans’ Hunger Free Communities

Bob Evans Restaurant is giving back this holiday season!

In America, an estimated three million households are food insecure – that amounts to one in six people who lack the nutritious food needed to live a healthy life. Bob Evans Farms is pledging to continue the fight to end hunger through its Hunger Free Communities campaign.

Farmhouse Feast® Donation Program
Starting as a grassroots effort in 2010 by restaurant employees, Bob Evans is once again offering the Farmhouse Feast donation program. Thanks to generous donations from guests, more than 5,300 Farmhouse Feasts were purchased and delivered by our employees to local charities last year. Now through Dec. 25, guests are invited to join Bob Evans in helping to make the holidays brighter for area families by making $1, $5 or $10 donations in restaurant or online. The Bob Evans Farmhouse Feast meal is available in two sizes to satisfy families large and small, serving up to eight or four, and comes with a choice of a slow-roasted whole boneless turkey breast or sliced boneless ham, bread and celery dressing, mashed potatoes with gravy, buttered sweet corn, green beans with ham, cranberry relish, rolls, and a pumpkin pie with whipped topping, providing a complete holiday meal for families in need. You can order one online now for your family to enjoy at http://www.bobevans.com/onlineordering. When ordering, be sure to make a donation to help put a meal on tables of hungry families around your community this season.

Fresh Produce Initiative
Another way Bob Evans gave back this year was at the grand opening of their new corporate campus in New Albany, Ohio on Oct. 26. They made a $50,000 contribution to support Mid-Ohio Foodbank’s fresh food initiative. An estimated three to six billion pounds of fresh produce grown each year in America does not make it to market. At the request of Feeding America, Mid-Ohio Foodbank launched a national initiative to get more of that produce from farmers’ fields to the tables of America’s hungry families. Bob Evans Food Products also donated sausage that equated to 18,000 meals to the Foodbank, which serves 20 counties in central and eastern Ohio.

I’ve been a fan of Bob Evans for a long time. Affordable, delicious, and convenient, what is there not to love?

It’s not easy to juggle my family’s busy schedule and also fit in meal time together. Especially around the holidays! Having dinner at Bob Evans, gives us the time to slow down, and enjoy the quality family-time we need. Now, it also makes it easy for us to give back – that’s a win, win for this busy mom!

New #GriddleMelts @ IHOP Review & #Giveaway

Going out for Sunday brunch! I love it! Time spent with my family, talking, and laughing, with-out all the cooking and kitchen clean up. This has to be one of my favorite things.

Last Sunday my family and I went to IHOP to check out their new Griddle Melts. A variety of hearty egg sandwiches, perfect for breakfast or lunch.

Griddle Melt varieties include:

  • Spinach, Roasted Pepper & Cheese Sautéed fresh spinach in a fluffy egg omelet topped with roasted red peppers and onions, melted Provolone, Parmesan and Pepper Jack cheeses on grilled artisan sourdough bread. Served with your choice of hash browns, French fries or seasonal fruit.
  • Western Smoked ham and sautéed peppers and onions in a classic omelet, topped with sliced ham, melted American cheese and served on grilled artisan sourdough bread. Served with your choice of hash browns, French fries or seasonal fruit.
  • Ham & Egg MeltSliced ham and melted Swiss and American cheeses over a fluffy egg omelet served on grilled artisan sourdough bread. Served with your choice of hash browns, French fries or seasonal fruit.

With choices like that – it can be hard to chose!

I chose the Spinach, Roasted Pepper & Cheese minus the Peppers, and it was delicious! This was my first time eating at IHOP, and not ordering pancakes. Their fries are surprisingly good, and went perfect with my sandwich. A brunch I can easily see me ordering again.

One lucky Five Dollar Shake reader will win a $25 IHOP gift card to try IHOP’s new Griddle Melts. Enter to win by using the Rafflecopter widget below. If you have any issues with the widget or would like to enter by email, feel free to contact me at shakingit@gmail.com. One winner will be chosen and contacted by email on March 27, 2013.

Dairy Queen, Fun Treats for The Whole Family. So Good It’s RiDQulous #Giveaway!

This giveaway is now closed.

Did you know that DQ® operators have been providing consumers with delicious treats and food since 1940? Yep, a Father and Son partnership spun a 10-cent sale of a then unnamed product on August 4, 1938, in Kankakee, Illinois. Today, the DQ® system is one of the largest fast food systems in the world, with more than 6,000 restaurants in the United States, Canada and 18 other countries. Visit the DairyQueen.com About Us Page for plenty more on their successful story.

We are huge DQ fans around here! My husband and I walk there often with our kids. Even Roxy (our basset hound) knows she is in for something special when we head to Dairy Queen. Pup Cup is cup of vanilla ice cream with a crunchy MilkBone in the center, and is a regular menu item. Our Roxy has enjoyed several Pup Cups in her day, but every now and then we mix it up and order her a cone of her own. Today was one of those days!

We tend to visit DQ for their treats, but did you know they also have a pretty full menu? You can check it out here.

Wither you stop in for a juicy burger and an order of fries, or treats for the whole family, DQ items are So Good It’s RiDQulous!
