I recently received a HoneyBaked Ham gift card to shop with, and bring home dinner to review with my family. Okay – we like ham! Well, HoneyBaked Ham is so much more than ham. I walked into our local HoneyBaked Ham store in Taylor, Mi and was instantly overwhelmed with choices. For example, the below photos is what I now refer to as the wonder wall of goodness…filled with delicious side dishes, and tasty desserts.

Speaking of goodness, I LOVE seeing how companies give back. HoneyBaked works with Feeding America – I like that!

I also like how incredibly helpful the store associates were. After looking around and reading all of the awesome meal deals posted, I let the woman behind the counter know how much I had to spend and how many people I needed to feed. She could not have been more helpful, hooking me up with a nice variety of turkey, ham and four side-dishes that she was very enthusiastic about. All within pennies of my designated budget. I swear that took talent, because I could have been there mixing it up all day.

Let me tell you the associates enthusiasm was not wasted! This meal, which took very little effort to heat up, was amazing! My family enjoyed every bit of it. The turkey coated in sweet crunchy glaze (yes, that is real real brown sugar) was by far my and my teenage daughter’s favorite. My husband and older daughter enjoyed the ham and the green beans. Also, a big hit was the stuffing and sweet potato souffle! OMG! Heaven.

I have spent my share of holidays working in the kitchen. This Easter I’m letting HoneyBaked Ham do all the work. Not only because the food is delicious, but I would much rather spend my time enjoying the day with my family, and have my kitchen look like this..

Than work all day in the kitchen and have it look like this…

Share Joy with Starbucks Holiday Blend #ShareJoy

Just because the kids have finished unwrapping their gifts doesn’t mean the holiday season has to come to an end. In-fact it’s the perfect time to sit back, relax and share a little joy as adults. Take the time to bask in another year of togetherness and to create new moments we wont soon forget. Sharing Starbucks’ smooth, yet hearty Holiday Blend adds a nice warm touch to those moments.

I recently received the above gift box from Starbucks to review here on my blog. The new Holiday Blend is a delicious mix of a Latin herbal blend, with tasty sweet maple notes. Perfect for this holiday season. I would expect nothing less from Starbucks.

Sharing the joy of Starbucks Holiday Blend is just as sweet as tasting it. That is just what I did. Mr Clause (my husband) and I were up late Christmas Eve putting the finishing touches on gifts for the kids and preparing for the big morning when we first enjoyed a cup of Holiday Blend. It was a nice way to sit back, relax and celebrate our efforts.

I also shared the joy of a bag of Starbucks Holiday Blend with my sister. A major coffee lover!

Starbucks Holiday Blend pairs nicely with everything this time of year brings, and sharing it has been a nice way to share joy with-in my family. I highly recommend it to you and yours.

Where have I been ??

I was hacked! A few days ago my main email address was hacked. Some of you may have gotten an email from me stating that I was stranded out of the country and needed money to return home. Rest assured – I”m fine, home in Michigan, safe and sound! Though, I am confident to now have all my accounts safe and secure, the processes unfortunately cost me a month of emails and email contacts. Oh, did I mention this happened the same day my computer crashed and took two days to recover? Just one of these issues is a huge inconvenience for any blogger, dealing with both, and preparing for the holiday has been a real challenge. I may have missed a deadline or two, and will be spending a few days playing catch up, but will first take the time to enjoy a very Merry Christmas with my family.

Thank you for your patients and for being a Five Dollar Shake reader.

– from my family to yours!

Holiday Nights in Greenfield Village #Detroit #Review

Happy Holidays! My name is Toni from My Book Addiction and I am thrilled to be posting on Five Dollar Shake today. Thank you so much for the invitation, Jenn!

I’ve always wanted to take my family to Holiday Nights at Greenfield Village. Every year we hear the fireworks from our living room and have always wondered what it would be like to go. Well, this year was a dream come true. It was a magical experience that none of us will forget. I was a little nervous because I have never been much of a winter person. You’d think living in Michigan for so long I would be used to it by now, but I am not a fan of cold weather, and it was only twelve degrees the night we went. Let me tell you, though.. it was beyond worth it. There were houses and other buildings along the way with different types of entertainment and demonstrations, so it was perfect. Whenever I got cold I would just pop into one and enjoy the show, then pop back out and continue along on our adventure.

Holiday Nights has carolers on nearly every corner, horse-drawn sleigh rides with a guitar-playing entertainer on each one, an outdoor ice rink, fantastic food, delicious hot chocolate. It was like being in a Christmas movie. My favorite part, and I know it was the highlight of my little girls’ nights as well, was seeing Santa Claus on Maple Lane. Not only did we get to see the big man up on that shining balcony, surrounded by Christmas lights, but Santa also called out to each of the children. When he said, “Oh, look, there’s Libby and Gabby! Merry Christmas to you both!” the look on their faces was nothing I’ve ever seen before. Gabby had asked me as we were approaching if he was the real Santa, and I said, “I don’t know.. let me get closer and see.” After he called out to them she turned to me with wide eyes and said, “It is the real Santa! He knows our names!!” If it hadn’t been so cold outside a tear may have escaped my eye. I’m sad to report that I didn’t get a good picture of Santa because my camera was frozen by that point, but there’s no way any of us will ever forget the experience.

Holiday Nights at Greenfield Village is the most enchanting way to celebrate the holidays. We will definitely be going again next year. I’m going to be sure to ask Santa for thermal underwear for the whole family, too!

Holiday Nights in Greenfield Village, Dec. 6-8, 13-15, 20-22 and 26-28. Starting at 6:30 PM.

Very Berry Holiday Tree featuring Driscoll’s Berries #3pmSnack

If you are looking for a fun family activity and eye-catching centerpiece? Check out this Very Berry Holiday Tree!

Special equipment: one floral foam or green Styrofoam cone measuring 4-5 inches in diameter at the base and 12 inches high; one box of toothpicks
Four 1-kb containers of fresh Driscoll strawberries
1 bunch fresh mint
1 slice from a carambola fruit (also known as star fruit)*
*Note: If you can’t find a carambola, you can use a 1-inch star-shaped cookie cutter to cut out a star shape from a mango slice instead.

1. Wash the strawberries and blot them dry with paper towels. Pull off the green stem from each strawberry. Reserve a perfect strawberry for the top of the ‘tree’.

2. Push a toothpick halfway into the side of the cone, about 1/2 inch from the bottom edge. Secure a strawberry to the toothpick, piercing it through the stem end. Secure another strawberry right next to the first one. Continue securing strawberries to the cone in circular rows up to its top, covering the cone completely. Secure the reserved strawberry to the top of the tree.

3. Remove some mint leaves from the bunch of mint and tuck them between the berries, placing them at about 3-inch intervals.

4. Secure the star-shaped carambola or mango slice to the top of the cone using a toothpicks

Easy, yet impressive! I’m planning to have two of these on my table this Christmas morning during our annual family breakfast.
