Spring Cleaning With Dirt Jobs #Giveaway

It’s that time of year again! With spring, comes “spring cleaning”. I have a real love/ hate relationship with spring. I love the nice warm temps, and I even enjoy the cleaning, it’s just finding the time within my schedule to get it going that I have trouble with each year. I tend to drag my feet, but once I get going, it’s all I want to do, and I don’t stop until it’s done. Not until every floor, baseboard, and closet has been cleaned. Then comes the payoff – the sense of accomplishment when it’s finished! That’s the best.

This year while spring cleaning I had the opportunity to try out a couple of new products. A Heavy-Duty Multi-Surface Cleaner, and a Heavy-Duty Degreaser, both are part of the new Dirty Jobs product line.

856430003049

First, I have to say that these products are not messing around when they say “heavy-duty”. They are packed with muscle! Which, honestly is what I expected with the name “Dirty Jobs” on the label. Being a fan of the show, I know what kind of messes Mike Rowe has been in. The label says “fresh citrus” but it was more of a cleaner scent. Something I’m not use to. I used these products with open windows, and while outside to keep the scent from becoming over powering.
I used the multi-surface cleaner on our baseboards, blinds and fixtures throughout our house. I used the degreaer on the back of our appliances, and several jobs outside, like our trash cans. Both of these Dirty Jobs products did an outstanding job, and helped me finish each task in less than the usual time. I can easily see the degreaser becoming a staple in our garage. It did a great job removing oil and grease from several of my husbands tools.

Glade Expressions Product Review

I am a fragrance fanatic! Candles, plug-ins, sprays – I love all of them, and use them often. So you can imagine my excitement when I was invited to review Glade Expressions collection.

The Glade Expressions Collection consists of a verity of scented oil diffusers and mists. The line boasts a stylish twist on fragrance by using visually appealing starter kits that are reusable and help blend into your own décor.

Available in four great scents:

  • Cotton & Italian Mandarin
  • Fuji Apple & Cardamom Spice
  • Lavender & Juniper Berry
  • Pineapple & Mangosteen

Not only do I love using fragrance products around the house, but I also depend on them. Have a basset hound as a member of our family, does not come without it’s challenges.

I’m happy to say that the Fuji Apple & Cardamom Spice mist and the Pineapple & Mangosteen scented oil diffuser have both been able to keep up with our hound.

The Fuji Apple & Cardamom Spice is amazing. I’ve been using it around the house daily, including the laundry room and bathroom. I like that it leaves a nice warm scent without being over-powering. It’s definitely I product I will be purchasing in the future.
The Pineapple & Mangosteen scented oil diffuser, not so much. Not only did I find the diffuser a little frustrating to load, I found the Pineapple & Mangosteen scent a little too sweet for my liking. I ended up moving it several times before settling on the basement – near the “mens room” and where the dog spends a lot of her time sleeping. Though it’s doing a fine job tackling odors, it’s just not a scent I will be purchasing in the future.

Glade Expressions products can be found at Walmart and other mass retailers, along with most grocery stores. The stylish Glade Expressions Fragrance Mist can be found in some drug stores.
Glade Expressions Fragrance Mist in Limited Edition Spring Collection scents – Vibrant Bloom and Garden Sunshine can only be found at Walmart.

Disclosure: Free products were received for the purpose of this blog post. I also contributed to a Bzz campaign for Glade Expressions.

Green Works Product Review

I recently replaced my usual cleaning products with the following Green Works products to see if cleaning with more natural ingredients can still be as effective.

A balanced, natural lifestyle begins with a clean home. That’s why the people at Clorox got to work on a line of products that clean powerfully without harsh chemical fumes or residue.

Green Works Products are:

  • Are made with plant- and mineral-based cleaning ingredients.
  • Come from biodegradable ingredients that are naturally derived
  • Are not tested on animals.
  • Use environmentally sustainable packaging whenever possible.
  • Are acknowledged by the EPA’s Design for the Environment program.

Green Works products are also affordable. Making it even easier for families to live a little greener. These points are all wonderful, but do they work? That is the big question most of us want to know before buying. I spent the past couple of weeks using the following Green Works products to find out:

  • Green Works Cleaning Wipes – It is 100% compostable, so you can clean up after your family and guests, and feel good while you’re at it!
  • Green Works Laundry Detergent – The dermatologist-tested formula is gentle on skin and formulated for both standard and high-efficiency (HE) washers, so you can be sure that your laundry will be fresh and clean….load, after load, after load
  • Green Works Bathroom Cleaner – The bathroom cleaner is a non-toxic way to power through soap scum, rust and hard water stains — without harsh chemical fumes and residue.
  • Green Works All Purpose Cleaner – It is safe to use on multiple surfaces throughout the kitchen and bathroom, including counters, appliances, stainless steel, sealed granite, chrome, cook top hoods, sinks and toilets.

The Green Works cleaning wipes work just as good as the store brand I have been using for years. I don’t use these often, but once in a while find them handy and convenient in the kitchen.

The Green Works Laundry detergent has been one of my preferred brands before starting this review. I’m always impressed that it can hold up to harsher detergents when cleaning my husbands work clothes. I tend to stock up on this laundry detergent when I catch it on-sale and have coupons to use.

Green Works Bathroom Cleaner! I had real doubts when I saw this product. The bathroom is a challenge for me. Even though I clean it almost everyday, I feel like it is never clean enough. By the third or fourth day into my review, my doubts were gone The Green Works Bathroom Cleaner has really held up. Not only cleaning as well as my usual cleaner, but leaving a nice clean feel and scent in the room. I definitely see me sticking with this product.

Green Works All Purpose Cleaner. I started using this product on my stainless steel appliances, counter tops, and even my window sills. It does a fine job. Replacing my usual product that left a harsh chemical smell in the room. Often strong enough to open a window. This has been a nice change.

I have to say these Green Works products pass with flying colors! It’s great to know I can get the same clean results without the harmful use of harsh chemicals.

Neat Containers Review & Giveaway

This giveaway is now closed.

I recently took on the job of organizing our basement. It’s been filled with piles of books, art supplies, and holiday decorations for as long as I can remember. Getting it in shape was not an easy job. Looking at it now, it’s become a place I can be proud of.

I was sent a large assortment of Neat Containers to help me tackle this difficult job. Neat Containers are great for organizing just about anything around your house – shoes in your closet, the kitchen pantry, holiday decorations, toys and books in the kids’ playroom, or arts & crafts supplies. The see-through storage system is designed to make the most of any size space – from the tiniest NY apartment to the most lavish walk-in closet.

What makes Neat Containers so unique and valuable is that it is “the only clear storage system that lets users remove and open individual pods from each stack without disturbing or collapsing nearby stacks or rows”. This was a great help to me when it came to organizing our daughters art supplies. Now, there will be no more guessing and removing lids to find what she needs. We are impressed with Neat Containers and the system we put in-place, that I’m already planning my next organizing job – the attic!

A funny “How-To” assemble video is located here – it literally takes two minutes to assemble the Neat Containers – they lock together.

They really are as easy to use as they look!

One lucky Five Dollar Shake reader will receive a Small 20 Piece Combo Kit from Neat Containers (a $47.99 value!) of their own to try. To be entered simply visit www.neatcontainers.com and leave a comment below saying which product you would like to try.
One winner will be chosen and contacted by email on November 23, 2011.

Stanley Home GrimeGuard Glass Cleaner Review & Giveaway

This giveaway is now closed.

Having a basset hound in our family can be pretty messy at times. It’s not just that she sheds year round, or that she can create a puddle of drool in a matter of minutes, but more so that her big beautiful nose leaves big not-so beautiful spots on our glass front door and end tables daily.

One thing I’ve learned over the years is that not all glass cleaners are up for our messy basset challenge. Often they leave a smear or sloppy looking streaks. When Stanley Home Products recently sent me their GrimeGuard Glass Cleaner for review, I don’t think they knew what they were up against. Yet, when put to the test on Roxy’s nose marks and drool they definitely came out the winner.

The effective, dual-action foam combines powerful cleaning action of ammonia, plus GrimeGuard™!
GrimeGuard™ provides an invisible shield to guard against accumulated dirt and repel water spot build-up. This protective shield keeps surfaces cleaner longer and makes on-going cleaning, quick, and easy. Plus, the foaming spray is non-streaking and quick drying! Just spray surface lightly and wipe to a streak-free shine. 17 oz.

I love a product that actually does what it claims, or even more so when it exceeds excitations. I at first found the scent of this product very strong and unpleasant. After using it more than once, I was thankful to learn that a little bit of this product goes a long way, making it much more tolerable Also, more affordable, as one can should last us quit a while. It does a fantastic job on our front door. Leaving a crystal clear view, and riding of the big basset nose prints better than most products I’ve tried before. The foam makes it easy to spray where most needed and to wipe clean before streaks are created.

Stanley Home would like to send one Five Dollar Shake reader a bottle of their Grim Guard Glass Cleaner of their own to try. Simply leave a comment below saying where you think you’d use it the most. One winner will be chosen and contacted by email on November 5, 2011.
