Bookstock Used Book and Media Sale #BookstockMI

Bookstock’s back at Livonia’s Laurel Park Place, offering incredible deals on used books and media. Bargains abound at Bookstock, metro Detroit’s biggest and best used book and media sale where all proceeds benefit literacy and education projects in metropolitan Detroit.

As much as I love movies, I also enjoy reading. It’s something I share with my entire family. Sometimes, there is just nothing more relaxing than curling up with a good book, and getting lost in then story. Yet, books don’t also come cheap. So, I’m super excited to share about Bookstock! A local event to help families enjoy books, and other media at awesome bargain prices.

Bookstock is an annual, non-profit used book and media sale. It is a highly visible event with thousands of shoppers. All merchandise sold comes from donations and all workers and organizers are volunteers. Proceeds from the sale, after deducting expenses, are donated to non-profit organizations. Merchandise remaining after the sale is donated to area non-profit organizations and schools.

Thousands of Pre-sorted books and merchandise!

  • Current fiction
  • Non Fiction
  • Books on tape
  • Children’s books
  • Cookbooks
  • CD’s
  • DVD’s

Bookstock takes place April 27-May 4, 2014 at Laurel Park Place in Livonia, Michigan.
On Sunday, April 27, 8:15 a.m.-11:00 a.m., there is a Pre-Sale for which there is a $20 entrance fee. After that, admission is free.
Hours are 10:00 a.m.-9:00 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 11:00 a.m.-6:00 p.m. on both Sundays.

Bookstock benefits the entire community by recycling gently used books and media and then offering them for sale at value prices. Most books and media range in price from $1-$4, although there are “special selections” (more valuable books) at various price points.

In 12 years, Bookstock has donated just shy of $1,000,000 to non-profit organizations in Detroit and the metro area, including those comprising its coalition. Additionally, Bookstock donates large quantities of unsold books to other non-profit organizations and schools. For example, the Salvation Army receives the bulk of the remaining books and media. Bookstock also underwrites a scholarship at the Wayne State University School of Library Science and supports the Bookstock Fund, a literacy fund that provides micro-grants to enhance literacy and learning in Detroit and the metro area.

We’ll be watching The Voice this season on NBC! #TheVoice #FamilyTVNight #TwitterParty

We’ll be watching The Voice, and I’ll be live tweeting Monday night (2/24) as part of NBC’s online Family Viewing Party. I’m excited because even though I’ve heard great things, I’ve never really watched The Voice. We’ve been searching for a positive, family friendly show for a while now. With each of us being music fans, and our teenage daughter enjoying high school choir this year, The Voice sure seems like the perfect choice for us.

“The Voice” returns with the strongest vocalists from across the country invited to compete in the blockbuster vocal competition show’s sixth season. Celebrity musicians and coaches Adam Levine, Shakira, Usher and Blake Shelton return, while Carson Daly continues to serve as host.??

The show’s innovative format features four stages of competition: the blind auditions, the battle rounds, the knockouts and finally, the live performance shows.

“The Voice” is a presentation of Mark Burnett’s One Three Inc., Talpa Media USA Inc. and Warner Horizon Television. The series is created by John de Mol, who executive produces along with Burnett, Audrey Morrissey, Stijn Bakkers and Lee Metzger. Shakira and Usher rejoin Blake Shelton and Adam Levine when Season 6 premieres Monday, February 24. 8/7c Rating: TV-PG.

Check out this new video just released featuring Mark Burnett:

2014 Kia Soul Review

Just before my recent trip to L.A., I was already rocking the Hollywood lifestyle, by test driving the new, transformed 2014 Kia Soul!

Yeah – this one!

The new Kia Soul features a 2.0-liter, 4-cylinder engine, clean hip body lines, shorter height, and tight steering. The model I reviewed was totally tricked out inside, bringing the fun to an all new grown-up level.

The Kia Soul is inspired by music and you can clearly see it by the design. The new one of a kind speaker set up is powerful and kicking. I’m a firm believer that music relieves stress and enhances ones mood. Making this a very fun car to drive!

Lets talk features

Keyless entry
Push button start
Navigation with SIRIUS Traffic
Sirius XM
Large 8 inch LCD screen
Inputs: Aux, Bluetooth, USB
Bluetooth wireless technology with steering wheel-mounted controls
Power windows, heated mirrors with integrated turn signals, locks
Amazing double sunroof
Heated front seats
Automatic Climate Control

A Few Safety features

Rear Camera Display
Dual front advanced airbags
Full-length side curtain airbags
Lower anchors and tethers for children (Latch system)
Traction control system (TCS)
Anti-lock braking system (ABS) with brake assist (BAS)

If you have ever been hurt in a rear end collision, you’ll appreciate the high, and easy to see tail lights.

Just as the Kia vehicles I’ve previously driven, this one was super comfortable, and easy to drive. The drivers seat fit like a glove. I really enjoyed all of the up to-date features, and found myself missing the automatic climate control, double sun roof, and heated seats soon after my review was over. Not to mention the sound system. Having a teenage daughter, this was like a party on the road every-time we left the house. It was actually nice having her want to go out with mom for a change. I guess the Kia Soul made this mom cool. Well, for a week anyway.

Speaking of being a mom, how about trunk space, The Kia Soul has it, and lot’s of it!

The mom in me added the Kia Soul to our short list of vehicles to consider purchasing because of it’s great safety features and amazing gas millage (I went the entire week without filling up). The girl in me added it because it’s fun, and like I said in the beginning of this post – driving the Kia Soul is totally rocking!

The Kia Soul starts at $18,200, contact your local Kia dealer for details.

Stay social with Kia!
Follow Kia on Facebook and Twitter!

Disclosure: I was delivered a 2014 Kia Soul to drive for one week. No monetary compensation has been exchanged. The opinions express are honest and my own. I was not asked or influenced in any way to write a positive review by Kia . I am disclosing this information as part of the legal FTC blogger regulations.
