We downloaded Marble Jar, the family motivating iPhone and iPad app over two months ago. As parents, we’ve always prefer to use positive reinforcement as a way to motive our daughter. The thought of putting such a modern twist to a classic reward system was super fun for us. The first month we set goals, set our activities, created rewards and were at them like crazy. We actually were competing at times to fill our jars. It was great! It was fun! But not much was really improving.
The second month was a little more realistic. We set our goals, our activities, and rewards but this time we focused more honestly on things we could improve on as a family. The road to filling the jars was a little longer, but the feeling of accomplishment when we reached our goals was much more satisfying. The biggest accomplishment by far is seeing our daughter remember to do her chores with-out being reminded by one of us. Our morning retinue was also a big point of focus, for her and myself. Getting out the door on time is not always an easy task. These are things we as a family have greatly improved on since downloading the Marble Jar app. We don’t use the app as often as we once did, but are still going strong with our improvements.
Is the app responsible for these changes and improvements, of course not. Did it help – I think so. Do I think it is worth downloading, absolutely! I highly recommend the Marble Jar app. I found this app easy to use and easy to customize.
