A couple of weeks ago I introduced my readers to Marble Jar, a new iPhone and iPad app that uses the idea of positive reinforcement and family participation as a monitoring progress. After downloading the app to our iPhone we decided to use most of the suggested activities already labeled inside the jars. So far this is going over very well. Having a twelve year old daughter that has a hard time getting out of bed each morning, adding an incentive with a touch of technology turned out to be a perfect fit. By the end of the second week we saw major positive changes in our morning routine. Turns out having a goal to reach, like inviting a friend to sleep over was a big help for our daughter in breaking some bad habits. We not only set rewards for her, but for us as a family as well. We’re in week three and and still having fun reminding each other when dropping a marble has been earned. I think the intensive of a family trip to the movies has us all on our best behavior.
We’ve filled two jars so far! One as a family and one was filled by our daughter.
Tips on getting this most from this app:
For us keeping it fun has really worked. Catching each other earning a marble is a great way to share a smile.
Rewards set for our daughter:
Girls night and sleep over at our house.(reward met)
Out for ice cream – on a week night.
Game night of her choice.
Rewards set for us as a family:
Dinner out at our favorite family restaurant.
Family trip to the movies. (reward met)
A Sunday PJ day of dvd’s and board games together.
