Synopsis: From the makers of the hit ICE AGE series comes RIO, a comedy adventure about taking a walk on the wild side. Blu is a domesticated Macaw who never learned to fly, living a comfortable life with his owner and best friend Linda in the small town of Moose Lake, Minnesota. Blu and Linda think he’s the last of his kind, but when they learn about another Macaw who lives in Rio de Janeiro, they head to the faraway and exotic land to find Jewel, Blu’s female counterpart. Not long after they arrive, Blu and Jewel are kidnapped by a group of bungling animal smugglers. With the help of street smart Jewel, and a group of wise-cracking and smooth-talking city birds, Blu escapes. Now, with his new friends by his side, Blu will have to find the courage to learn to fly, thwart the kidnappers who are hot on their trail, and return to Linda, the best friend a bird ever had.
We recently had the pleasure of attending an advanced screening of Rio. Blue Sky Studios, the creators behind the Ice Age movies have really created a winner in our eyes! Filled with beautiful colors, comedy, and great music, Rio is a fun experience for the whole family. With excellent use of 3D animation, the colors and details are stunning without any crazy or over the top effects. This really complements a fun storyline that is driven by love and a few of life lessons. There are plenty of laugh out loud moments during Rio. Will i Am and Jamie Fox as birds Nico and Pedro provide a lot of those moments. Yet, they are certainty not alone. One of the best things about Rio is that it is so well cast. The characters have fantastic chemistry that leaps off the screen (no 3D pun intended). I honestly feel there could not have been a better voice for Blu than Jesse Eisenberg. Rio moves pretty quick, making it a good choice for young children. There is also a nice lack of swear words and violence. I definitely recommend seeing Rio on the big screen. It’s an enjoyable movie that is well worth the time and money.
From the kids:
“I loved the music” “I loved the 3D” “Blu is my favorite bird” “I liked when he fell onto the glider, that was so funny” “The dog was cool” “I liked the chase scenes, they made me jump” “I’m ready to see it again!”
Rio opens this Friday, April 15!
I was provided with free passes to an advanced screening of Rio for the purpose of this review. No type of monetary compensation was received.
