Nicholas Sparks fan’s get ready! I had the pleasure of attending an advanced screening of Safe Haven, and the movie does not disappoint! Sticking to that wonderful Nicholas Sparks formula that works so well, Safe Haven is filled with romance, drama, a little humor, and suspense. This story (for those who have not yet read the book) also packs an unexpected twist.
An affirming and suspenseful story about a young woman’s struggle to love again, Safe Haven is based on the novel from Nicholas Sparks, the best-selling author behind the hit films The Notebook and Dear John. When a mysterious young woman arrives in a small North Carolina town, her reluctance to join the tight knit community raises questions about her past. Slowly, she begins putting down roots, and gains the courage to start a relationship with Alex, a widowed store owner with two young children. But dark secrets intrude on her new life with such terror that she is forced to rediscover the meaning of sacrifice and rely on the power of love in this deeply moving romantic thriller.
I attended this screening with one of my best girlfriends. Over all, we both really enjoyed the movie. It made for a great girls night out. Just in time for Valentine’s Day, it will also make for a great date-night movie. I love that the story is a journey of hope, and courage, and that the drama is not overwhelming. I never even pulled out my tissues. Which was refreshing for a Nicholas Sparks film. Is it somewhat predictable? Yeah- maybe, but Safe Haven is never dull and it kept us entertained. Julianne Hough, and Josh Duhamel are not only easy on the eyes, they also have great chemistry together on screen. Not to over look the great supporting cast. It’s definitely a joint effort that makes Safe Haven work. I can’t think of a bad performance in the movie. I enjoyed it so much, that I honestly wouldn’t mind seeing it again on the big screen.
SAFE HAVEN from Relativity Media is in theaters now!
