The newly restored and remastered movie Yellow Submarine staring The Beatles was just released on Blu-Ray and DVD on June 5th.
“Once upon a time… or maybe twice, there was an unearthly paradise called Pepperland, a place where happiness and music reigned supreme. But all that was threatened when the terrible Blue Meanies declared war and sent in their army led by a menacing Flying Glove to destroy all that was good. Enter John, Paul, George and Ringo to save the day! Armed with little more than their humour, songs, and of course, their yellow submarine, The Beatles tackle the rough seas ahead in an effort to bring down the evil forces of bluedom.”
What feels like a series of trippy shorts, is more a product of its time. The 60’s! Yellow Submarine mixes photographs with animation in a highly unconventional way. If you haven’t seen it, it is something to see. Very different than anything I’ve seen. At one point, The Beatles are transformed into little kids and then old men. Sounds crazy? it is, but somehow it works.
Though I don’t consider myself a Beatles Fan, the music and some of the visuals sure took me back to my childhood. I found myself humming along and enjoying songs I didn’t even know I knew. I really enjoyed the special features.
Special features include: Behind-the-scenes photos, a nice documentary, the Original theatrical trailer and more including several interviews.
If you’re looking to capture some of the 60’s or to purchase a gift for any Beatles Fan, then this is definitely a purchase to consider.
I also have the pleasure to giveaway one DVD copy of The Beatles’ Yellow Submarine to one lucky Five Dollar Shake reader. Simply enter using the Rafflecopter widget below!
