Based on the celebrated comic book arc, this epic action-adventure takes Wolverine, the most iconic character of the X-Men universe, to modern day Japan. Out of his depth in an unknown world he faces his ultimate nemesis in a life-or-death battle that will leave him forever changed. Vulnerable for the first time and pushed to his physical and emotional limits, he confronts not only lethal samurai steel but also his inner struggle against his own immortality, emerging more powerful than we have ever seen him before.
Unlike my husband and daughter, I’m not much of an X-Men fan. Surprising to me – I really enjoyed 2009’s X-Men Origins: Wolverine. So, I though I’d give this one a try. I was right to do so. Though not a perfect movie, The Wolverine manages to stay action packed while giving the audience an in-depth, look inside the Wolverine, inside his soul as he struggles with personal demons and whether his immortality and claws are a curse or a blessing. This movie brings more appeal to the whole “mutant” franchise than I expected.
This is a great movie for any X-Men or action movie fan. I feel the need to point out The Wolverine is not your typical “comic-book” super-hero movie, it’s much darker than most. There is also a lot of adult language and bloodshed. Hugh Jackman never disappoints, and he definitely brings his A-game in this movie. He seems to have plenty of Wolverine left in him, which I feel fans will appreciate.
