By shopping local and small business, you are helping to create jobs and supporting families in your own community. Shopping at small businesses helps to keep money (taxes dollars) local, with a percentage going to support schools, parks and libraries.
I’m excited to kick off the Five Dollar Shake Holiday Gift Guide with a couple of my favorite local and small businesses.
First on my list, Pretty Lady Salon. The owners and staff work endlessly to not only provide amazing services, but to continuously give back to our community. Just seeing their generosity over the years and how they make it all sound so effortless, has made a big impact on my life. I could not be prouder to be a Pretty Lady Salon client.
Giving a gift certificate to Pretty Lady Salon this holiday season, is giving someone the gift of indulging in a full-service salon experience and knowing they will leave feeling refreshed, confident and relaxed. Pretty Lady Salon gift certificates can be purchased in any denomination and used for services or Aveda products that are available in the salon.

Next on my Gift Guide is Partylite candles and gifts, while the Partylite brand might be large, their consultants are independent contractors, they’re self-employed, making them small business owners and trust me when I say that they hustle hard to earn an income. For many consultants, selling Partylite is a second job, which means they have ends to meet, families to support.
“The PartyLite tradition of making the world’s finest candles dates back more than a century to one woman and one candle in the heart of New England, where American candle-making has its roots. In 1909, a schoolteacher named Mabel Baker began making bayberry candles in her Cape Cod kitchen. Soon she was producing the finest candles in New England. From those sweet, fragrant beginnings emerged a company that, in 1973, introduced a new concept and a new brand called PartyLite. Based in Norwell, Mass., today our company is the world’s #1 party plan company selling candles, candle holders, flameless fragrance and wax warmers, as well as holiday and home décor in 20 different countries.”
Partylite offers so many great gift options, there really is something for everyone. Visit an official website to look around and shop online.
