I recently spent a week driving the 2015 Toyota Camry XLE for review. The Camry is America’s number one selling car in it’s class. I found that a little hard to believe before my review week began, but by the end of the week I was so impressed I was asking “where do I sign”. Now, the point of reviewing cars is NOT to be purchasing one, but to share my honest thoughts on the vehicle’s design, features, and performance. The 2015 Toyota Camry XLE is an impressive vehicle that in my opinion is worthy of it’s number one position.
Impressive safety features:
Being only five foot tall, the Blind Spot Monitor is extremely helpful. The BSM detects a vehicle, and illuminates a warning indicator on the appropriate sideview mirror to help you know when it’s safe to change lanes. Rear Cross-Traffic Alert (RCTA) works in much the same way. When you slowly back out of a driveway or parking spot, it provides audible and visual indicators to warn you of approaching vehicles.
During my week with the 2015 Toyota Camry XLE, I experienced a close call while driving in a turning lane. Though it was only a few feet, it took only seconds for a car to pull into the lane, heading in the wrong direction. If it wasn’t for the Pre-Collision System kicking in and quickly applying the break, I’m certain we would have collided. So, this is now my favorite safety feature. The Pre-Collision System (PCS) works with the Dynamic Radar Cruise Control (DRCC) system to anticipate if a frontal collision is imminent. If so, under certain conditions, the system automatically applies the brakes.
The Camry is packed with ten Airbags, and features Whiplash-Injury-Lessening Seating. Camry’s front seats are engineered to yield in a controlled fashion in certain rear-end collisions, helping to reduce the risk of neck injuries.
I also have to mention the Safety Connect. Emergency assistance is always within reach. Via Toyota’s 24/7 call center, Safety Connect® offers subscribers helpful features such as Emergency Assistance, Stolen Vehicle Locator, Roadside Assistance and Automatic Collision Notification. Bringing technology to our finger tips to keep us safe. I love that about Toyota.
Comfort & design:
Driving enthusiasts will appreciate Camry’s front sport seats. With side bolsters that cradle the driver and available Ultrasuede® seats, Camry delivers bold performance that helps you enjoy the drive even more. The Camry has got plenty of room. Not a lack of knee or leg room here.
Whether it’s the sun, moonlit sky or a gentle breeze, Camry’s available power tilt/slide moonroof lets you take it all in. It’s a larger size moonroof, so the back passengers are able to enjoy it as much as the driver, which is really nice.
The 8-way power-adjustable heated driver’s seat is a bonus. I really appreciated it while driving home after a long day. felt so good that a few times I actually drove a little longer than I need to.
The Camry is loaded with wide door panel cup holders in the front and the back, which is nice for family trips.
Features & technology:
Smart Key System with Push Button Start makes everyday life easier. It’s a must when I shop for my next vehicle.
Wireless charging. Did you hear me? Wireless charging. No wires. No mess. Total convenience. Available on Camry, the wireless charging system lets you simply place your Qi-compatible device on the nonslip surface to charge up wirelessly.
Wireless is cool, but don’t worry the Camry also has plenty of convenient USB outlets in the car. Keeping everyone in the family happy.
The available Voice-activated features are a big favorite of mine. Anytime I can make things happen while keeping my eyes on the road is a good thing. Advanced voice recognition gives you another way to easily access your navigation system, Bluetooth® hands-free phone and Entune® App Suite. All you have to do is speak normally—Camry will understand.
The nice size Nav system with traffic also made my life easier. I really appreciated the alternate route suggestions during rush hour.
Camry’s available Entune® App Suite is really cool. You can access Pandora® and iHeartRadio for music, make restaurant reservations with OpenTable®, and buy movie tickets with MovieTickets.com. Plus, get sports scores, stocks, traffic and weather — even fuel prices.
Good looks and the power to back it up. The 2015 Camry offers a design just as bold as its performance.
The Camry was designed to thrill. Its available 3.5-liter V6 puts 268 horsepower under your right foot, making it one powerful ride. I drove this car to and from my office for five days, including two freeway exchanges. The 2015 Toyota Camry XLE never once felt like it struggled. It had no problems going up hill, picking up speed or merging with traffic. It also handled turns beautifully. Making it very fun to drive.
Don’t let the word “Hybrid” fool you. The Camry Hybrid knows how to balance power for fuel efficiency. With Hybrid Synergy Drive®, the combined output of both the gas and electric motors is an impressive 200 hp. And because of its advanced design, lightweight materials and refined aerodynamics, you can go farther for less. A nice feature is the energy monitor. It displays the gas engine, the electric motor generator and hybrid battery. As conditions change, it provides real-time information showing how power is being routed to the drive wheels, or how the battery is being charged.
Driving a new vehicle is always fun. Doing it for review is a bit unique. I work hard to honestly take note of the positive and negative to share with my readers. This time, I did not experience anything negative about the 2015 Toyota Camry XLE within the seven days of driving it. I honestly could see myself purchasing this vehicle.
